Life Cycle Assessment of Sweet Sorghum as Feedstock for Second-generation Biofuel Production [PDF]
There exist few life cycle assessments (LCAs) in the literature that focus on the second-generation biofuel production from sweet sorghum, a non-food-source feedstock that offers several advantages in terms of farming requirements compared to corn or ...

Biofuels are dead: long live biofuels(?) – Part one
Beleaguered by criticisms, and abused by politicians for ecological target-setting, biofuels are in their darkest hour. But their bringing to trial should remind us - yet again - of something else: the highly questionable sustainability of most of modern agriculture. Is this the end of biofuels?

This study investigates the impact and cost‐competitiveness of rooftop solar power in a highly hydropower‐driven northern energy system toward 2050. The role of rooftop photovoltaics (PV) is assessed under different energy transition pathways and through a sensitivity analysis aiming to disclose important barriers to PV investments in the energy system.

The Brazilian biofuels industry [PDF]
Ethanol is a biofuel that is used as a replacement for approximately 3% of the fossil-based gasoline consumed in the world today. Most of this biofuel is produced from sugarcane in Brazil and corn in the United States. We present here the rationale for the ethanol program in Brazil, its present 'status' and its perspectives.

Integrated production of pigments, fermentation sugars, and pure lignin has been investigated for the creation of profitable biorefinery developments. Choline chloride‐based natural deep eutectic solvents possess unique solvent capabilities to interact with plant cell wall components to disintegrate lignin‐carbohydrate complex.
