Pistacia Root and Leaf Extracts as Potential Bioherbicides

open access: yesPlants, 2022
The allelopathic effect of pistachios was analyzed by field and laboratory tests. The parameters analyzed in the field trials were the biomass, weed density, weed diversity, and specific richness of the weed community. The studies were carried out in the area under the canopy and in the area beyond the influence of the pistachio tree, and the results ...

Physiological action of bioherbicides in weed control: a systematic review

open access: yesFrontiers in Agronomy
IntroductionBioherbicides are naturally derived substances that can be used to control weeds. Bioherbicide compounds can be alternatives to synthetic herbicides and are key resources for the discovery of novel molecules and modes of action (MOA) for weed

Stability studies of cynaropicrin–major sesquiterpene lactone of Cynara cardunculus leaves

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This study investigated its stability under high temperature and pH, mimicking agronomic extremes and under soil context. Bioassays demonstrated that degradation products exhibited higher phytotoxic activity than cynaropicrin and deacylcynaropicrin. This is the first study about cynaropicrin's stability, characterizing degradation products, and their ...

Isolation, Identification, and Herbicidal Activity of Metabolites Produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa CB-4

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture, 2014
CB-4, a bacterial strain with highly effective herbicidal activity, was isolated from infected corn leaves. Through morphology, physiological and biochemical tests, and 16S ribosomal DNA gene sequencing methods, CB-4 was identified as Pseudomonas ...

Essential oils as bioherbicides: effects of orange and citronella oils on weed germination and early growth

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Essential oils from orange and citronella showed dose‐dependent inhibition of weed germination and early growth, highlighting their potential as bioherbicides and sustainable tools for integrated weed management. Abstract BACKGROUND Increasing selection of herbicide‐resistant weed biotypes has intensified the search for alternatives to the intensive ...

Table_5_Spliceostatin C, a component of a microbial bioherbicide, is a potent phytotoxin that inhibits the spliceosome.docx

open access: yes, 2023
Spliceostatin C (SPC) is a component of a bioherbicide isolated from the soil bacterium Burkholderia rinojensis. The chemical structure of SPC closely resembles spliceostatin A (SPA) which was characterized as an anticancer agent and splicing inhibitor ...

Potential Use of Biological Herbicides in a Circular Economy Context: A Sustainable Approach

open access: yesFrontiers in Sustainable Food Systems, 2020
In recent years, synthetic herbicides' intense and disordered use has triggered severe contamination of soils and water bodies, causing damage to living organisms, including vegetal herbicide-resistance.

Management of invasive alien plants in forests: A global perspective

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 7, July 2026.
This review exposes urgent and critical knowledge gaps in forest IAP management, which need addressing to meet global targets for biodiversity and forest health. These gaps include highly uneven global research effort, narrow species focus, limited method replication, overlooked seasonal effects, and inconsistent cost reporting.
