Bioimpedance assessment of hypohydration
Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, 1999This study examined the utility of bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) for assessing total body water (TBW) changes associated with moderate (6-7% TBW), hypertonic (HH), and isotonic (IH) hypohydration. The TBW of nine men was measured using BIS (TBWBIS) when euhydrated (EU) and during HH and IH.

Variable frequency bioimpedance instrumentation
The 26th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2005The design of instrumentation used to measure the bioimpedance of skin or tissue is presented. An inexpensive, component level approach, appropriate for use by researchers rather that commercial applications, is emphasized. The design and implementation process is thoroughly explained and design tradeoffs are discussed with relation to various ...

Bioimpedance Spectroscopy of the Breast
Lymphatic Research and Biology, 2020Background: Bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) measurements of breast lymphedema poses practical and technical challenges, in particular the determination of the resistance at zero frequency (R0), the index of change in breast lymph content. Conventionally, R0 is calculated from data analysis by using a procedure eponymously known as Cole modeling, a ...

Bioimpedance and Bioimpedance Vector Analysis in patients with Anorexia Nervosa
European Eating Disorders Review, 2012AbstractObjectiveThe utility of bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) in patients with anorexia nervosa (AN) is imperfectly defined. Furthermore, any advantage accrued by BIA with vector analysis (BIVA) is unknown.MethodWe conducted a retrospective analysis of 57 women with AN admitted to our service who underwent BIA and BIVA. Twenty‐seven women were

Thoracic bioimpedance estimates cardiac output based on the principle that each heartbeat induces a decrease in the electrical impedance of an electrical current applied through the thorax and that this decrease is proportional to stroke volume. It is a completely noninvasive and easy-to-use technique.

Electrical Bioimpedance-Controlled Surgical Instrumentation
IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Circuits and Systems, 2015A bioimpedance-controlled concept for bone cement milling during revision total hip replacement is presented. Normally, the surgeon manually removes bone cement using a hammer and chisel. However, this procedure is relatively rough and unintended harm may occur to tissue at any time.

Optimal designs for studying bioimpedance
Physiological Measurement, 2007D-optimal designs for nonlinear fixed and mixed effects models are explored, and the theory is applied to the measurement and analysis of bioelectrical impedance. Bioimpedance is known to vary more at extreme frequencies than others. D-optimal designs that account for this variation, and also possible mis-specification of initial parameter estimates ...

Bioimpedance Spectroscopy in Healthy Children
Journal of Clinical Engineering, 2016Prediction equations compromise the usefulness of bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) in children. This preliminary study explored the possibility of establishing reference curves in children, based on BIS-modeled data and/or resistance index (RI) values. In addition, the precision of repeated measurements was calculated.

Microprocessor Controlled Bioimpedance Measurements
Proceedings of the Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 1992This paper describes the measurements made possible by using microprocessor-control to operate a Solartron 1260 Impedance Analyzer. Calibration experiments were able to demonstrate that an apparent two time-constant impedance measurement is really only a one time-constant system.
