Lichens as bioindicators of air quality in Dimitrovgrad (South-Eastern Serbia) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Air pollution detection in Dimitrovgrad has not been done yet. In this work different lichen have been used as a bioindication to establish different air pollution levels. At 18 investigated points 22 lichen taxa have been found.

Staphylinid beetles as bioindicators [PDF]

open access: yesAgriculture, Ecosystems & Environment, 1999
The family Staphylinidae is one of the largest beetle families and is distributed worldwide in almost all types of ecosystems. The morpho-ecological characteristics of staphylinid beetle adults and developmental stages are summarized, and features pertaining to their potential use as bioindicators are highlighted.

Sediment Core DNA‐Metabarcoding and Chitinous Remain Identification: Integrating Complementary Methods to Characterise Chironomidae Biodiversity in Lake Sediment Archives

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 25, Issue 1, January 2025.
ABSTRACT Chironomidae, so‐called non‐biting midges, are considered key bioindicators of aquatic ecosystem variability. Data derived from morphologically identifying their chitinous remains in sediments document chironomid larvae assemblages, which are studied to reconstruct ecosystem changes over time.

Use of Bioindication Methods in National, Regional and Local Monitoring in Poland—Changes in the Air Pollution Level over Several Decades

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2020
In Poland, the first studies using mosses as indicators of the heavy metal air pollution level were carried out in national parks already in the 1970s. They were continued later in 10-year intervals.

The Impact of Oil Palm Plantations and Pastures on Benthic Prokaryotic and Fungal Communities in Tropical Streams

open access: yesFreshwater Biology, Volume 70, Issue 1, January 2025.
ABSTRACT The expansion of oil palm plantations and cattle grazing lands has a detrimental impact on freshwater ecosystems, causing ecological degradation and biodiversity loss in the tropics, although little is known about the effects on the aquatic microbial community.
