Biological Characteristics and Regulation of Early Megakaryocytopoiesis

Stem Cell Reviews and Reports, 2019
For decades, megakaryocytopoiesis is believed to occur following a classical binary hierarchical developmental model. This model is based on an analysis of predefined flow-sorted cell populations by using cell surface markers. However, this classical model has been challenged by increasing evidences obtained with new techniques which integrating flow ...

Meningiomas in Singapore: Demographic and Biological Characteristics

Journal of Neuro-Oncology, 2000
We sought to determine the relative incidence of meningiomas compared to other central nervous system tumours in an Asian surgical series, as well as the demographic and biological characteristics of these meningiomas. A review of 655 consecutive cases of central nervous system tumours from 583 patients representing the last five years admissions to ...

Biological characteristics of the Calliphora vomitoria agglutinin

Developmental & Comparative Immunology, 1992
The galactose specific agglutinin from Calliphora vomitoria was found to be expressed in the haemolymph of all the larval instars, but could not be detected at any other time during the life cycle. The haemagglutinating activity was insensitive to wounding of the tegument or injection of saline; however, a significant increase in haemagglutinating ...

Characteristics of Biological Networks

2004
Network principles describe uniformly systems as diverse as the cell or the Internet. The emergence of these networks is driven by self-organizing processes that are governed by simple but generic laws. While unraveling the complex and interwoven systems of different interacting units, it has become clear that the topology of networks of different ...

Biological characteristics of carbon-ion therapy

International Journal of Radiation Biology, 2009
Radiotherapy using charged and/or high-linear energy transfer (LET) particles has a long history, starting with proton beams up to now carbon-ions. Radiation quality of particle beams is different from conventional photons, and therefore the biological effects of high-LET irradiation have attracted scientific interests of many scientists in basic and ...

Some fluidization characteristics of biological beds

Biotechnology and Bioengineering, 1983
AbstractThe free‐fall terminal velocity of particles coated with a nitrifying biofilm was investigated. The drag force exerted by the liquid on a biocoated particle was found larger than that for an uncoated particle. A new formula for the drag coefficient was proposed. The wet density of biofilm was estimated as 1.14 g/cm3.

[Biological characteristics of the spirulines].

Annales de la nutrition et de l'alimentation, 1976
The biological characteristics of Spirulina are reported in this study. The cellular structure and photosynthetic membrane structure of Spirulina (Cyanoschizophyta) were viewed by electron microscopy after freeze-etching. Special characteristics of the alga, its ecological behavior in natural carbonated water and its energetic behaviou in the ...

Classification, Biological Characteristics and Cultivations of Ganoderma

2019
Species of Ganoderma (Ling-zhi) have been widely researched and cultivated due to their highly prized medicinal value, which is famous as a traditional Chinese medicine. The aims of this chapter are to (1) review the historical taxonomy of the family Ganodermataceae, (2) provide an account of the genera and species of Ganoderma together with the ...

Biologic characteristics of four Ewing's sarcomas

Cancer Genetics and Cytogenetics, 1985
Four Ewing's sarcomas were examined for chromosomal characteristics, growth in cell culture, tumorigenicity in nude mice, and presence of beta-adrenergic receptors. Three tumors were from untreated patients (one obtained directly from the patient and two after growth in nude mice) and one was a metastatic lesion obtained after treatment.

Biological Characteristics of Sludge

1983
Much research has been conducted recently on cellular physics concerning metabolic activities of cells. Since sludge is composed primarily of mixed cultures of microorganisms, the cellular physiology and mechanisms utilized by typical cells should be examined in order to determine their effect during the wastewater treatment processes.
