Biological clock: Biological clocks may modulate drug addiction [PDF]
A recent study by McClung's group (2005),1 expanding on an earlier report,2 provides mechanistic insight to the timekeeper gene, Clock, which may regulate dopaminergic transmission and cocaine reward. This work provides further evidence that cocaine-induced effects have circadian influences.

The Tibetan medicine Zuotai influences clock gene expression in the liver of mice [PDF]
Background. The circadian clock is involved in drug metabolism, efficacy and toxicity. Drugs could in turn affect the biological clock as a mechanism of their actions.

Peripheral Skin Temperature and Circadian Biological Clock in Shift Nurses after a Day off
The circadian biological clock is essentially based on the light/dark cycle. Some people working with shift schedules cannot adjust their sleep/wake cycle to the light/dark cycle, and this may result in alterations of the circadian biological clock. This

How to Synchronize Biological Clocks [PDF]
This paper is concerned with a novel algorithm to study networks of biological clocks. A new set of conditions is established that can be used to verify whether an existing network synchronizes or to give guidelines to construct a new synthetic network of biological oscillators that synchronize.

Exploring the Relationship of Relative Telomere Length and the Epigenetic Clock in the LipidCardio Cohort [PDF]
Telomere length has been accepted widely as a biomarker of aging. Recently, a novel candidate biomarker has been suggested to predict an individual’s chronological age with high accuracy: The epigenetic clock is based on the weighted DNA methylation ...

Sickle Cell Disease Is an Inherent Risk for Asthma in a Sibling Comparison Study
ABSTRACT Introduction Sickle cell disease (SCD) and asthma share a complex relationship. Although estimates vary, asthma prevalence in children with SCD is believed to be comparable to or higher than the general population. Determining whether SCD confers an increased risk for asthma remains challenging due to overlapping symptoms and the ...

ABSTRACT Background While Wilms tumor (WT) typically has a favorable prognosis, relapsed cases—especially those with high‐risk histology—remain therapeutically challenging after intensive frontline therapy. The combination of vincristine and irinotecan has demonstrated activity in pediatric solid tumors, and pazopanib, a multi‐targeted tyrosine kinase ...
