A Survey of Biological Data in a Big Data Perspective

Big Data, 2022
The amount of available data is continuously growing. This phenomenon promotes a new concept, named big data. The highlight technologies related to big data are cloud computing (infrastructure) and Not Only SQL (NoSQL; data storage). In addition, for data analysis, machine learning algorithms such as decision trees, support vector machines, artificial ...

Intuitive Clustering of Biological Data

2007 International Joint Conference on Neural Networks, 2007
K-means clustering combines a variety of striking properties because of which it is widely used in applications: training is intuitive and simple, the final classifier represents classes by geometrically meaningful prototypes, and the algorithm is quite powerful compared to more complex alternative clustering algorithms.

Biological algorithm for data reconstruction

Physical Review E, 2010
An algorithm inspired by Genome sequencing is proposed which "reconstructs" a single long trajectory of a dynamical system from many short trajectories. This procedure is useful in situations when many data sets are available but each is insufficiently long to apply a meaningful analysis directly.

A digital filter for biological data

Medical & Biological Engineering, 1969
Low pass digital filters are very suitable for use on stored biological data. This paper discusses the characteristics of the ideal data filter and the digital approximation to such a filter. The use of this filter with biological data is shown.

Biological relevance of data variability

Brain, Behavior, and Immunity, 2004
Fellow immunologists, have you ever thrown the baby out with the bath water? To put this query in a scientific context, have you ever discarded data because of the unanticipated variability of the immune response being assayed in an experiment involving immunizing inbred rodents?

Parallel Computing for Biological Data

2009
In the 1990s a number of technological innovations appeared that revolutionized biology, and 'Bioinformatics' became a new scientific discipline. Microarrays can measure the abundance of tens of thousands of mRNA species, data on the complete genomic sequences of many different organisms are available, and other technologies make it possible to study ...
