Biological CO2-Methanation: An Approach to Standardization [PDF]
Power-to-Methane as one part of Power-to-Gas has been recognized globally as one of the key elements for the transition towards a sustainable energy system. While plants that produce methane catalytically have been in operation for a long time, biological methanation has just reached industrial pilot scale and near-term commercial application.

Adaptation of a microbial community to demand-oriented biological methanation. [PDF]
AbstractBackgroundBiological conversion of the surplus of renewable electricity and carbon dioxide (CO2) from biogas plants to biomethane (CH4) could support energy storage and strengthen the power grid. Biological methanation (BM) is linked closely to the activity of biogas-producingBacteriaand methanogenicArchaea.

Biological hydrogen methanation systems – an overview of design and efficiency [PDF]
The rise in intermittent renewable electricity production presents a global requirement for energy storage. Biological hydrogen methanation (BHM) facilitates wind and solar energy through the storage of otherwise curtailed or constrained electricity in the form of the gaseous energy vector biomethane.

Study of the performance of a thermophilic biological methanation system
This study investigated the operation of ex-situ biological methanation at two thermophilic temperatures (55°C and 65°C). Methane composition of 85-88% was obtained and volumetric productivities of 0.45 and 0.4LCH4/Lreactor were observed at 55°C and 65°C after 24h respectively.

Biochemistry of aerobic biological methane oxidation
Methane monooxygenase enzymes use metal cofactors to activate methane under ambient, aerobic conditions. This review highlights recent progress in understanding the structure and activity of the membrane-bound and soluble methane monooxygenases.

Oxidation of methane by a biological dicopper centre [PDF]
Vast world reserves of methane gas are underutilized as a feedstock for the production of liquid fuels and chemicals owing to the lack of economical and sustainable strategies for the selective oxidation of methane to methanol. Current processes to activate the strong C-H bond (104 kcal mol(-1)) in methane require high temperatures, are costly and ...

Bioactivity of Inhaled Methane and Interactions With Other Biological Gases [PDF]
A number of studies have demonstrated explicit bioactivity for exogenous methane (CH4), even though it is conventionally considered as physiologically inert. Other reports cited in this review have demonstrated that inhaled, normoxic air-CH4 mixtures can modulate the in vivo pathways involved in oxidative and nitrosative stress responses and key events

Monodeuterated Methane, an Isotopic Tool To Assess Biological Methane Metabolism Rates [PDF]
Microbial methane consumption is a critical component of the global carbon cycle, with wide-ranging implications for climate regulation and hydrocarbon exploitation. Nonetheless, quantifying methane metabolism typically involves logistically challenging methods and/or specialized equipment; these impediments have limited our understanding ...
