The secret to achieving reliable biological phosphorus removal

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 2008
The enhanced biological phosphorus removal (bio-P) activated sludge process has a reputation for variable performance. A significant factor contributing to variability in bio-P was found to be related to microbial population dynamics involving the competitive growth of polyphosphate accumulating organisms (PAOs) and glycogen accumulating organisms ...

Factors Affecting Biological Removal of Phosphorus

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 1985
A pilot plant study on biological removal of phosphorus was conducted over fifteen months to obtain optimum operational conditions and evaluate process performance. The pilot plant was composed of an anaerobic zone followed by an aerobic zone, and had a capacity of treating 100 m3 municipal wastewater per day.

Probing Electrocatalyst Design for Product Selectivity in CO2 Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Selective CO2 electroreduction is controlled by catalyst structure, dynamic surface reconstruction, adsorbate interactions, and reaction microenvironment. This review summarizes Cu‐ and non‐Cu‐based catalysts, single‐atom and molecular systems, degradation pathways, and operando/computational strategies for steering CO2RR toward hydrocarbons ...

Effect of Varying Nitrate Concentrations on Denitrifying Phosphorus Uptake by DPAOs With a Molecular Insight Into Pho Regulon Gene Expression

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Bacterial Pho regulon is a key regulator component in biological phosphorus-uptake. Poly-phosphate accumulating bacteria used in enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) system encounter negative regulation of the Pho regulon, resulting in reduced ...

The Plant‐to‐Plant Circular Strategy: Coupling Photodegradation and Phytoremediation With Plant‐Based Nanomaterials for Plastic Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Plant‐based nanomaterials derived from alfalfa serve as dual‐function catalysts, coupling photodegradation and phytoremediation to degrade polyethylene under UV‐A light and in soil. The nanomaterials work synergistically with alfalfa and soil microbes, achieving efficient plastic breakdown without trophic transfer.

TED1 Promotes the Assembly of SCFD3‐D14‐D53 to Reinforce Strigolactone Signaling in Rice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies TED1 as a positive regulator of strigolactones (SL) signaling in rice. The ted1 mutants display dwarfism and increased tillering with significantly reduced SLs sensitivity. Through its longer C‐terminal region, TED1 interacts with D53 and D14 to promote the assembly of SCFD3‐D14‐D53, thereby facilitating the efficient ...

Battery‐Inspired Electrochemical Synapses for Neuromorphic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Battery‐ion‐inspired synaptic devices integrate diverse electrolyte systems (solid, ion‐gel, liquid) with transition metal oxides, two‐dimensional materials, and organic channels to regulate ion‐electron coupling. By tailoring ion transport and host interactions, these platforms enable controllable plasticity and energy‐efficient implementations for ...
