Cancer biomarkers, and novel techniques for detection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Technologies for early detection of tumors is critical for better therapy outcome and overall change in cancer survival. These assays must be capable of detecting tumors at early stages in order to prevent metastasis of the tumor and help reduce ...

Cellular interactions in the tumor microenvironment: the role of secretome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Over the past years, it has become evident that cancer initiation and progression depends on several components of the tumor microenvironment, including inflammatory and immune cells, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, adipocytes, and extracellular matrix ...

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Plasma thymidine kinase 1 activity and outcome of ER+ HER2− metastatic breast cancer patients treated with palbociclib and endocrine therapy

open access: yesBreast Cancer Research, 2020
Purpose Previous cohort studies have reported plasma TK1 activity (pTKa) as a potential prognostic biomarker in estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) HER2-negative (HER2−) metastatic breast cancer (MBC).

Exosomes promote pre-metastatic niche formation in ovarian cancer. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Ovarian cancer is one of the most common gynecological malignancies. Upon initial diagnosis, the majority of patients present with widespread metastatic growth within the peritoneal cavity. This metastatic growth occurs in stages, with the formation of a

Tumor-agnostic biomarkers

open access: yesPractical oncology, 2021
A huge amount of data obtained during last 30 years in multiple translational works allowed both to break particular tumor types into subgroups based on molecular markers but also to create pan-tumor subgroups based on particular markers. These evidence suggest the new approach to diagnostic and treatment algorithms should be implemented.

Circulating Tumor Cells: A Multifunctional Biomarker [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Cancer Research, 2014
AbstractOne of the most promising developments in translational cancer medicine has been the emergence of circulating tumor cells (CTC) as a minimally invasive multifunctional biomarker. CTCs in peripheral blood originate from solid tumors and are involved in the process of hematogenous metastatic spread to distant sites for the establishment of ...

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...

Radio-pathomic estimates of cellular growth kinetics predict survival in recurrent glioblastoma

open access: yesCNS Oncology
Aim: A radio-pathomic machine learning (ML) model has been developed to estimate tumor cell density, cytoplasm density (Cyt) and extracellular fluid density (ECF) from multimodal MR images and autopsy pathology.

Clinicopathological Features and Molecular Signatures of Lateral Neck Lymph Node Metastasis in Papillary Thyroid Microcarcinoma [PDF]

open access: yesEndocrinology and Metabolism
Background The predictive factors for lateral neck lymph node metastasis (LLNM) in papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) remain undetermined. This study investigated the clinicopathological characteristics, transcriptomes, and tumor microenvironment in
