Prostate cancer is a leading malignancy with significant clinical heterogeneity in men. An 11‐gene signature derived from dysregulated epithelial cell markers effectively predicted biochemical recurrence‐free survival in patients who underwent radical surgery or radiotherapy.

Ranking Biomarkers Through Mutual Information [PDF]
We study information theoretic methods for ranking biomarkers. In clinical trials there are two, closely related, types of biomarkers: predictive and prognostic, and disentangling them is a key challenge. Our first step is to phrase biomarker ranking in terms of optimizing an information theoretic quantity. This formalization of the problem will enable

Sepsis is an unusual systemic reaction to what is sometimes an otherwise ordinary infection, and it probably represents a pattern of response by the immune system to injury. A hyper-inflammatory response is followed by an immunosuppressive phase during which multiple organ dysfunction is present and the patient is susceptible to nosocomial infection ...

Clinical significance of stratifying prostate cancer patients through specific circulating genes
We tested a specific panel of genes representative of luminal, neuroendocrine and stem‐like cells in the blood of prostate cancer patients, showing predictive value from diagnosis to late stages of disease. This approach allows monitoring of treatment responses and outcomes at specific time points in trajectories.

Fused Detection of Retinal Biomarkers in OCT Volumes [PDF]
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is the primary imaging modality for detecting pathological biomarkers associated to retinal diseases such as Age-Related Macular Degeneration. In practice, clinical diagnosis and treatment strategies are closely linked to biomarkers visible in OCT volumes and the ability to identify these plays an important role in ...

MET variants in the N‐lobe of the kinase domain, found in hereditary papillary renal cell carcinoma, require ligand stimulation to promote cell transformation, in contrast to other RTK variants. This suggests that HGF expression in the microenvironment is important for tumor growth in such patients. Their sensitivity to MET inhibitors opens the way for

Predictive biomarker graphical approach (PRIME) for Precision medicine [PDF]
Precision medicine is an evolving area in the medical field and rely on biomarkers to make patient enrichment decisions, thereby providing drug development direction. A traditional statistical approach is to find the cut-off that leads to the minimum p-value of the interaction between the biomarker dichotomized at that cut-off and treatment.

Combining Biomarkers by Maximizing the True Positive Rate for a Fixed False Positive Rate [PDF]
Biomarkers abound in many areas of clinical research, and often investigators are interested in combining them for diagnosis, prognosis, or screening. In many applications, the true positive rate for a biomarker combination at a prespecified, clinically acceptable false positive rate is the most relevant measure of predictive capacity.
