Polylactic Acid (PLA), Polycaprolactone (PCL), and Chitosan: the Biodegradable Transition in Medical Waste Management

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, EarlyView.
The shift to biodegradable materials in healthcare promises reduced plastic pollution, but their production, adoption, and long‐term impacts remain complex. Integrating lifecycle insights with global policy coordination is essential for meaningful environmental gains. Abstract The COVID‐19 pandemic sharply increased medical waste, intensifying concerns

Polyethyleneimine‐Modified Biosorbent Based on Banana Pseudostem Biomass for Environmental Remediation and Food Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, EarlyView.
Biosorbents derived from banana pseudostem are functionalized with polyethyleneimine, with or without glutaraldehyde, and evaluated for dye removal and solid‐phase extraction. The materials exhibit high adsorption capacities and broad pH applicability in dye removal, while computational studies reveal amino groups as key interaction sites.

Techno‐Economic Analysis of Polylactic Acid from Corn Stover: Understanding Uncertainty and Variability via Artificial Intelligence Tools

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, EarlyView.
This study analyses the uncertainty and variability existing in the economic performance of polylactic acid (PLA) production, via integrating techno‐economic analysis with process models and Monte Carlo simulation enabled by artificial intelligence. The results show that the minimum selling price varies from $2,107 to $3076/t PLA.

Bioenergy Potential of Europe's Perennial and Biennial Wildflowers: A Combustion Performance Benchmark

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, EarlyView.
Eight wild plant species were investigated as co‐substrates for pellet combustion. A long‐term field trial examined dry matter yield and biochemical composition, influencing combustion properties. Results show suitable combustion properties, comparable to Sida, with higher ash melting temperatures than Miscanthus, due to elevated calcium and magnesium.

Exploring the Immobilization Strategies of Lewis Bases on Lignocellulosic Bamboo Shavings and their Applications in Cycloaddition of CO2 and CO2 Derivatives

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, EarlyView.
Biobased bamboo shavings are used to immobilize Lewis base catalysts for CO2 valorization. Two methods are investigated for immobilization of catalysts: covalent isocyanate coupling and silane condensation. The isocyanate method achieves 100% conversion of cyclic carbonate starting from epoxides, whereas the silane method yields glycerol carbonate with
