Gasification of Biomass

open access: yes, 2021
Gasification is an indirect combustion of solid and liquid biomass by converting them to combustive syngas. Gasification is an alternative process for the traditional combustion, in which the emission of dust and toxic gases can be minimized. In this chapter, a comparison of these two biomass-to-heat conversion processes applied on biomass is presented

Deep Eutectic Solvent Pretreatment of Transgenic Biomass With Increased C6C1 Lignin Monomers. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The complex and heterogeneous polyphenolic structure of lignin confers recalcitrance to plant cell walls and challenges biomass processing for agroindustrial applications.

Hydropyrolysis of biomass [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
The pyrolysis and hydropyrolysis of biomass was investigated. Experimental runs using the biomass (Poplar wood sawdust) were performed using a tubular reactor of dimensions 1 inch inside diameter and 8 feet long heated at a temperature of 800 C and pressures between 450 and 750 psig. At low heat-up rate the reaction precedes in two steps.

The role of biomass in the renewable energy system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Europe is striving for zero carbon electricity production by 2050 in order to avoid dangerous climate change. To meet this target a large variety of options is being explored. Biomass is such an option and should be given serious consideration.

Bioenergy and Biomass Utilization [PDF]

open access: yesBioMed Research International, 2015
Bioenergy is of increasing interest as a renewable, environmentally friendly alternative to energy derived from fossil fuels. Through a variety of processes, biomass can be converted to solid, liquid, or gaseous biofuels. However, various challenges persist to the maintenance and development of biomass-to-energy utilization.

Intermediate coupling between aboveground and belowground biomass maximises the persistence of grasslands [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Aboveground and belowground biomass compartments of vegetation fulfil different functions and they are coupled by complex interactions. These compartments exchange water, carbon and nutrients and the belowground biomass compartment has the capacity to ...

An overview of advances in biomass gasification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Biomass gasification is a widely used thermochemical process for obtaining products with more value and potential applications than the raw material itself.

Pyrolytic Behavior of Major Biomass Components in Waste Biomass [PDF]

open access: yesPolymers, 2019
The pyrolytic behavior of several biomass components including cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, and tannin, from two sources of waste biomass (i.e., pine bark and pine residues) were examined. Compared to the two aromatic-based components in the biomass, carbohydrates produced much less char but more gas.
