BIOMASS BOTTOM ASH RECYCLING AS PAVEMENT BASE

open access: yesRURAL DEVELOPMENT 2019, 2020
EU countries agreed upon increasing the use of renewable energy, which strongly stimulates usage of biofuels. Biomass ash is generated as a residue product in large volumes as a result of biomass combustion. Heavy metal content in the ashes is the main hinder for further ash utilization in agriculture, forestry and construction sector.

Combined effect of increasing the post‐reformer temperature and adding red mud as a secondary catalyst in the thermocatalytic reforming of digestate

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract This work studies the combined effect of increasing the post‐reformer temperature and introducing red mud as a support catalyst in the thermocatalytic reforming (TCR®) of digestate. The TCR® method, developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology UMSICHT (abbreviated as Fraunhofer UMSICHT), is an extension

Experimental Investigation of Ash Deposit Behavior during Co-Combustion of Bituminous Coal with Wood Pellets and Empty Fruit Bunches

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
In Korea, oil-palm empty fruit bunches (EFBs), which are byproducts of the crude palm-oil milling process, are among the most promising potential energy sources for power plants. However, the slagging and fouling characteristics of EFBs during combustion

Potential contribution of biomass gasification‐based technology in energy transition: a technical review coupled with bibliometric studies

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract Biomass gasification technology has been extensively researched around the world; however, there is a need to evaluate the current research landscape and evolutionary direction of research in the broader context of energy transition. A systematic bibliometric analysis of the Web of Science database was performed for articles that fall within ...

Biochar‐based fertilizers improve nutrient use efficiency in sunflower grown on a subtropical tidal soil

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract Improving fertilizer use efficiency is essential for reducing environmental pollution, sustaining agricultural production, and maximizing the economic profitability of crop production systems. This study tested the hypothesis that the formulation strategy of biochar‐based fertilizers, rather than nutrient addition alone, is associated with ...

Integrated biorefinery for cellulosic ethanol and spherical nanolignin production from coconut waste

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract Green coconut waste was subjected to different fractionation methods to obtain integrated lignin nanoparticles and cellulosic ethanol. Pretreatment with gradual addition of dilute sulfuric acid provided a higher structural hemicellulose precursor yield (68.2%).

Study on sodium emissions during the combustion of blends of biomass and high-ash content coal in an oxyfuel environment

open access: yesNext Energy
Biomass combustion power generation has received significant attention as it is a carbon-neutral fuel. Countries with coal as the primary resources for power generation are adopting means of co-firing locally available biomass with coal to reduce carbon ...

Biogas production from Opuntia stricta Haw.: microbial diversity and solid load influence on sludge recycle systems

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract The search for alternative and sustainable energy sources becomes urgent as energy demand increases and fossil fuels become less available, especially in water‐scarce regions such as the Brazilian semi‐arid region, where current projections of global warming and the expansion of arid and semi‐arid zones point to a future of desertification ...
