Latitudes and land use: Global biome shifts in vegetation persistence across three decades

open access: yesFrontiers in Remote Sensing, 2023
Introduction: The dynamics of terrestrial vegetation are shifting globally due to environmental changes, with potential repercussions for the proper functioning of the Earth system.

Evolutionary biology and anthropology suggest biome reconstitution as a necessary approach toward dealing with immune disorders

open access: yes, 2013
Industrialized society currently faces a wide range of non-infectious, immune-related pandemics. These pandemics include a variety of autoimmune, inflammatory and allergic diseases that are often associated with common environmental triggers and with ...

Triglyceride-Catabolizing Lactiplantibacillus plantarum GBCC_F0227 Shows an Anti-Obesity Effect in a High-Fat-Diet-Induced C57BL/6 Mouse Obesity Model

open access: yesMicroorganisms
Given the recognized involvement of the gut microbiome in the development of obesity, considerable efforts are being made to discover probiotics capable of preventing and managing obesity.

Estimating relative sunshine duration from commonly available meteorological variables for simulating biome distribution in the Carpathian Region

open access: yesHungarian Geographical Bulletin, 2022
Bright sunshine duration (BSD) data are required for simulating biomes using process-based vegetation models. However, monthly global paleoclimate datasets that can be used in paleo data–model comparisons do not necessarily contain BSD or radiation data.

Short impact on soil microbiome of a Bacillus amyloliquefaciens QST713 based product that correlates with higher potato yield across USA

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is considered one of the most widely consumed crops worldwide, due to its high yield and nutritional profile, climate change-related environmental threats and increasing food demand.

Temporal variability is an inherent feature of the healthy canine microbiome assessed by full-length 16S rRNA gene sequencing

open access: yesAnimal Microbiome
The canine gut microbiome plays a crucial role in host health, yet assessment of its temporal variability remains largely unexplored. Here, we used full-length 16S rRNA gene sequencing to evaluate long-term temporal variability of the fecal microbiomes ...

Validation of the Two Standard MODIS Satellite Burned-Area Products and an Empirically-Derived Merged Product in South Africa

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2014
The 500-m Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) burned area products, MCD45A1, MCD64A1, and a merged product were validated across six study sites in South Africa using independently-derived Landsat burned-area reference data during the ...

An Overview of the BIOMed Project

open access: yes, 2017
The purpose is to: 1) foster the national BioMedical Informatics (BMI) foundation aligning with the international medical informatics association (IMIA) in order to remodel the national strategies; 2) structure the BMHI strategic plans in Egypt and Jordan as models for other Arab States; 3) define the requirements for new joint EU-Mediterranean BMHI ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Alleviation of Adipose Tissue Inflammation and Obesity Suppression by a Probiotic Strain That Induces GLP-1 Secretion

open access: yesMicroorganisms
Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) is a hormone secreted from enteroendocrine cells that can promote weight loss and blood glucose improvement. We screened probiotic strains that effectively stimulate GLP-1 secretion from human enteroendocrine cells and ...
