Elucidating prognostic significance of purine metabolism in colorectal cancer through integrating data from transcriptomic, immunohistochemical, and single‐cell RNA sequencing analysis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low expression of five purine metabolism‐related genes (ADSL, APRT, ADCY3, NME3, NME6) was correlated with poor survival in colorectal cancer. Immunohistochemistry analysis showed that low NME3 (early stage) and low ADSL/NME6 (late stage) levels were associated with high risk.

Biomechanical Behaviors and Degradation Properties of Multilayered Polymer Scaffolds: The Phase Space Method for Bile Duct Design and Bioengineering

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2023
This article reports the electrospinning technique for the manufacturing of multilayered scaffolds for bile duct tissue engineering based on an inner layer of polycaprolactone (PCL) and an outer layer either of a copolymer of D,L-lactide and glycolide ...

Tetrahydrobiopterin in biomedical research [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Inherited Metabolic Disease, 2009
Tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) is an endogenously synthesized cofactor, required for various enzyme activities and for some less well-defined functions. It is also required at the cellular level. The known enzymes that depend on BH4 are phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH), tyrosine hydroxylase, tryptophan hydroxylases 1 and 2, all three types of nitric oxide ...

Highly multiplexed digital PCR assay for simultaneous quantification of variant allele frequencies and copy number alterations of KRAS and GNAS in pancreatic cancer precursors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining melting curve analysis enhances the multiplexing capability of digital PCR. Here, we developed a 14‐plex assay to simultaneously measure single nucleotide mutations and amplifications of KRAS and GNAS, which are common driver genes in pancreatic cancer precursors. This assay accurately quantified variant allele frequencies in clinical samples

3D Printed Electromyography Sensing Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Sensor Research, 2023
Electromyography (EMG) has been widely used in robotics and biomedical applications for sensing and diagnostic purposes. Because of the complex shape of human limbs and the uneven and flexible surface of the human skin, EMG sensing often faces the ...

The atypical KRASQ22K mutation directs TGF‐β response towards partial epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in patient‐derived colorectal cancer tumoroids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TGF‐β has a complex role in cancer, exhibiting both tumor‐suppressive and tumor‐promoting properties. Using a series of differentiated tumoroids, derived from different stages and mutational background of colorectal cancer patients, we replicate this duality of TGF‐β in vitro. Notably, the atypical but highly aggressive KRASQ22K mutation rendered early‐

Elaboration and characterization of nanostructured biocements for biomedical applications

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2007
Biocements formed from the composition Ca/P have been studied and developed since 1983. These biomaterials are promissing and have aroused great interest to biomedical surgery applications, fixation of prostheses and filling and reconstruction of bones ...

Biomedical informatics and granularity [PDF]

open access: yesComparative and Functional Genomics, 2004
AbstractAn explicit formal‐ontological representation of entities existing at multiple levels of granularity is an urgent requirement for biomedical information processing. We discuss some fundamental principles which can form a basis for such a representation.

Biomedical Dataset Recommendation

open access: yesProceedings of the 10th International Conference on Data Science, Technology and Applications, 2021
Dataset search is a special application of information retrieval, which aims to help scientists with finding the datasets they want. Current dataset search engines are query-driven, which implies that the results are limited by the ability of the user to formulate the appropriate query.

A large‐scale retrospective study in metastatic breast cancer patients using circulating tumour DNA and machine learning to predict treatment outcome and progression‐free survival

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
There is an unmet need in metastatic breast cancer patients to monitor therapy response in real time. In this study, we show how a noninvasive and affordable strategy based on sequencing of plasma samples with longitudinal tracking of tumour fraction paired with a statistical model provides valuable information on treatment response in advance of the ...
