Design and Validation of a Custom-Made Laboratory Hyperspectral Imaging System for Biomedical Applications Using a Broadband LED Light Source

open access: yesSensors, 2022
Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) is a promising optical modality that is already being used in numerous applications. Further expansion of the capabilities of HSI depends on the modularity and versatility of the systems, which would, inter alia, incorporate ...

Numerical model for evaluating the speckle activity and characteristics of bone tissue under the biospeckle laser system

open access: yesJournal of Innovative Optical Health Sciences, 2021
This paper discusses and studies the composition and characteristics of biospeckle on the surface of bone tissues. We used a laser speckle device to capture biospeckle patterns from fresh pig bone tissue. Traditional speckle activity metrics were used to

Influence Of Optical Properties and Fiber separation on Laser Doppler Flowmetry

open access: yes, 2002
Microcirculatory blood flow can be measured using a laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF) probe. However, the readings are affected by tissue optical properties (absorption and scattering coefficient; µa and µs) and probe geometry. In this study the influence of

3D-printed immersion micro optics

open access: yesLight: Advanced Manufacturing
Femtosecond 3D-printing offers tantalizing avenues for miniaturization and integration of micro optical systems. Available photoresists, however, restrain their utility in liquid immersion, especially in media with refractive indices larger than n = 1.33,

Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Epigenetic silencing of the liver‐specific lncRNA LUNAR promotes liver cancer progression via NOTCH activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LUNAR is a liver‐specific long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) that is highly expressed in normal liver but becomes epigenetically silenced in hepatocellular carcinoma through promoter hypermethylation. Loss of LUNAR is associated with NOTCH activation, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and metastasis, whereas restoring LUNAR restrains metastatic progression ...
