The endocannabinoid system (ECS) modulates neuroprotection, energy balance, and stress and fear response. Invertebrate models like Lymnaea stagnalis shed a light on ECS's evolutionary conserved functions. In this study, ECS enzyme transcripts were identified and characterized in snail central nervous system, showing a high level of conservation with ...

Trained immunity: Perspectives for disease control strategy in marine mollusc aquaculture
Abstract Recent evidence has demonstrated the unique properties of the innate immune system, known as innate immune memory, immune priming, or trained immunity. These properties have been described as the ability of the innate immune system to learn from previous microbial experiences, which improves survival after subsequent infection. In this review,

Weight loss and survival of Biomphalaria Glabrata deprived of water [PDF]
Immature and mature Biomphalaria glabrata are kept out of water at relative humidities varying from 0 to 100%. When snails are submitted to a saturated atmosphere, they show a slow weight loss and survival may be long. If relative humidity (RH) decreases, weight loss becomes important and survival is short.

Invasive freshwater snails are less sensitive to population density than native conspecifics
Species invasion can negatively affect natural ecosystems, so understanding how and why lineages become invasive is critically important to effectively predict potential future invasions. We address whether key life‐history traits across invasive versus native lineages of a New Zealand freshwater snail species differ in response to population density ...

Procambarus virginalis Lyko, 2017: A new threat to Iberian inland waters
We provide the first record of Procambarus virginalis in the Iberian Peninsula, based on morphological and genetic evidence (molecular barcoding of COI). We discuss its most plausible introduction pathways, update its global geographical distribution, highlight the potential impacts if it becomes invasive in Iberia and recommend some proposal ...
