Identification and characterization ofBiomphalaria peregrina(Orbignyi, 1835) from Agua Escondida in northern Patagonia, Argentina [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Natural History, 2011
During a general malacological survey for freshwater gastropods in northern Patagonia, a population of Biomphalaria was encountered at Agua Escondida. Biomphalaria spp. are freshwater pulmonates of biomedical importance, uncommon in Mendoza Province, and often act as intermediate hosts for Schistosoma mansoni.

Morphological and polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment lenght polymorphism characterization of Biomphalaria kuhniana and Biomphalaria amazonica from Colombia [PDF]

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2002
In Colombia, five Biomphalaria planorbid species are known: B. kuhniana, B. straminea, B. peregrina, B. canonica and B. oligoza(var. B. philippiana). Among them, B. straminea is intermediate host of Schistosoma mansoni and B.

Identification of Biomphalaria havanensis and Biomphalaria obstructa populations from Cuba using polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism of the ribosomal RNA intergenic spacer

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2001
In Cuba, several Biomphalaria species have been reported such as B. orbignyi, B. schrammi, B. helophila, B. havanensis and B. peregrina; only the latter three are considered as potential hosts of Schistosoma mansoni.

ITS2 variability of Biomphalaria (Mollusca, Planorbidae) species from the Paranapanema Valley (São Paulo State, Brazil): diversity patterns, population structure, and phylogenetic relationships

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2007
The ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) has been shown to be a useful genetic marker for species identification and phylogenetic reconstruction in the genus of freshwater snails Biomphalaria (Preston 1910).
