Masterbatch‐Assisted Fabrication of Polylactic Acid/Reduced Graphene Oxide Nanocomposites. ABSTRACT Polylactic acid (PLA) is a promising bio‐based polymer; nonetheless, its extensive application is still limited by poor fracture toughness, low thermal stability, and strong susceptibility to degradation induced by ultraviolet (UV) radiation.

Bioplastics: an examination of variety, degradation, and environmental effects
There is considerable confusion about ‘bioplastics.’ They are often touted as ‘greener’ than conventional plastics and may be claimed to be biodegradable and compostable. However, there are a great variety of different products claimed to be bioplastics,

Preparation of lightweight composite panels from multilayer beverage carton waste. ABSTRACT Beverage carton waste, a multi‐layer composite of cardboard, polymer, and aluminum, presents significant recycling challenges for conventional recovery technologies. This work presents a manufacturing process‐oriented method that allows shredded beverage cartons

Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) was extracted from watermelon rind using acid hydrolysis. MCC can be efficiently used as reinforcement in biofilms and biocomposites. Abstract The increasing accumulation of agricultural waste from watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) represents a substantial environmental concern, particularly in view of the extensive ...

Unsaturated biobased polyesters from bicyclic α‐pinene‐based diols
We present the synthesis of four biosourced unsaturated polyesters made from chiral terpene‐based diols and esters of renewable diacids. The resulting materials harbor a bicyclic pinene ring in their backbones which leads to enhanced thermal properties while still conferring susceptibility to enzyme hydrolysis for chains having a cis alkene.

Sotol (Dasylirion spp.) is a resilient desert plant that sustains ecosystems, cultures and livelihoods in Chihuahua Desert. Our review highlights its nutritional properties, traditional uses and potential new applications in food, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy and water remediation. By synthesizing evidence across disciplines, we show how sotol can

ABSTRACT The large multinational metalworking industry has increasingly adopted micro‐level circular economy (MLCE) practices; however, the extent to which these initiatives translate into sustainable performance remains insufficiently understood. This study examines the relationship between MLCE and economic, environmental, and social performance ...

Consistently inconsistent: The false promise of ‘sustainable’ plastics
This perspective explains why the lack of regulation around bioplastics remains a hurdle for the successful development and implementation of a legally binding agreement (the Global Plastics Treaty) by the United Nations Environment Assembly to curb ...
