Effect of Ultrasound-Treated Arabinoxylans on the Oxidative Stability of Soybean Oil

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2020
Arabinoxylans (AX) are polysaccharides with antioxidant activity and emulsifying properties, which make them an attractive alternative for its potential application as a natural antioxidant in oils. Therefore, this work aimed to investigate the effect of

Nonlinearity-induced conformational instability and dynamics of biopolymers

open access: yes, 2001
We propose a simple phenomenological model for describing the conformational dynamics of biopolymers via the nonlinearity-induced buckling and collapse (i.e. coiling up) instabilities.

Composites of Shellac and Silver Nanowires as Flexible, Biobased, and Corrosion‐Resistant Transparent Conductive Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Shellac, a centuries‐old natural resin, is reimagined as a green material for flexible electronics. When combined with silver nanowires, shellac films deliver transparency, conductivity, and stability against humidity. These results position shellac as a sustainable alternative to synthetic polymers for transparent conductors in next‐generation ...

Quantum effective potential, electron transport and conformons in biopolymers

open access: yes, 2005
In the Kirchhoff model of a biopolymer, conformation dynamics can be described in terms of solitary waves, for certain special cross-section asymmetries.

Biopolymers-Based Materials Containing Silver Nanoparticles as Active Packaging for Food Applications–A Review

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2020
Packaging is an integral part of food products, allowing the preservation of their quality. It plays an important role, protecting the packed product from external conditions, maintaining food quality, and improving properties of the packaged food during

Biomimetic Iridescent Skin: Robust Prototissues Spontaneously Assembled from Photonic Protocells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Uniform nanoparticles are induced to form arrays (photonic crystals) in the cores of biopolymer capsules, endowing these ‘protocells’ with structural color. These protocells are then assembled into large self‐standing objects, i.e., prototissues, with robust mechanical properties as well as iridescent optical properties.

Impacts of microalgae pre-treatments for improved anaerobic digestion: Thermal treatment, thermal hydrolysis, ultrasound and enzymatic hydrolysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Anaerobic digestion (AD) of microalgae is primarily inhibited by the chemical composition of their cell walls containing biopolymers able to resist bacterial degradation.

Review of Applications and Future Prospects of Stimuli-Responsive Hydrogel Based on Thermo-Responsive Biopolymers in Drug Delivery Systems

open access: yesPolymers, 2021
Some of thermo-responsive polysaccharides, namely, cellulose, xyloglucan, and chitosan, and protein-like gelatin or elastin-like polypeptides can exhibit temperature dependent sol–gel transitions.
