Diagnostic Challenge of a Deep Minor Salivary Gland Neoplasm

open access: yesCase Reports in Otolaryngology, 2014
Core needle biopsy represents a safe and cheap alternative diagnostic method to open biopsy and fine-needle aspiration cytology in head and neck tumors.

The diagnostic value of ultrasound-guided percutaneous core needle biopsy of musculoskeletal soft tissue lesions

open access: yesJournal of Ultrasonography, 2021
Introduction: Percutaneous ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy is a well-established method in the diagnosis of musculoskeletal tumors. It is unclear which factors contribute the most to a successful biopsy.

A comparative study of circulating tumor cell isolation and enumeration technologies in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Lung cancer cells were spiked into donor blood to evaluate the recovery rates of the following circulating tumor cell (CTC) enrichment technologies: CellMag™, EasySep™, RosetteSep™, Parsortix® PR1, and Parsortix® Prototype systems. Each method's advantages and disadvantages are described.

Concordance of breast cancer biomarker testing in core needle biopsy and surgical specimens: A single institution experience

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 11, Issue 24, Page 4954-4965, December 2022., 2022
Retesting estrogen receptor and HER2 status provides more clinical benefit than retesting progesterone receptor status. We propose guidelines for retesting receptor profiles to aid patient care management decisions, prioritize clinical benefits, and minimize healthcare costs.

Needle tip force estimation by deep learning from raw spectral OCT data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Purpose. Needle placement is a challenging problem for applications such as biopsy or brachytherapy. Tip force sensing can provide valuable feedback for needle navigation inside the tissue. For this purpose, fiber-optical sensors can be directly integrated into the needle tip. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) can be used to image tissue.

Cell‐free DNA aneuploidy score as a dynamic early response marker in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
mFast‐SeqS‐based genome‐wide aneuploidy scores are concordant with aneuploidy scores obtained by whole genome sequencing from tumor tissue and can predict response to ARSI treatment at baseline and, at an early time point, to ARSI and taxanes. This assay can be easily performed at low cost and requires little input of cfDNA. Cell‐free circulating tumor

Mesenchymal stem cells: A novel treatment option for primary sclerosing cholangitis

open access: yesCell Biology International, Volume 47, Issue 2, Page 467-479, February 2023., 2023
Abstract Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a progressive liver disease for which there is no effective therapy. Hepatocytes and cholangiocytes from a PSC patient were cocultured with mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to assess in vitro change. A single patient with progressive PSC was treated with 150 million MSCs via direct injection into the common

Highly multiplexed digital PCR assay for simultaneous quantification of variant allele frequencies and copy number alterations of KRAS and GNAS in pancreatic cancer precursors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining melting curve analysis enhances the multiplexing capability of digital PCR. Here, we developed a 14‐plex assay to simultaneously measure single nucleotide mutations and amplifications of KRAS and GNAS, which are common driver genes in pancreatic cancer precursors. This assay accurately quantified variant allele frequencies in clinical samples

Needle Tip Force Estimation using an OCT Fiber and a Fused convGRU-CNN Architecture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Needle insertion is common during minimally invasive interventions such as biopsy or brachytherapy. During soft tissue needle insertion, forces acting at the needle tip cause tissue deformation and needle deflection. Accurate needle tip force measurement provides information on needle-tissue interaction and helps detecting and compensating potential ...

Targeting the AKT/mTOR pathway attenuates the metastatic potential of colorectal carcinoma circulating tumor cells in a murine xenotransplantation model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dual targeting of AKT and mTOR using MK2206 and RAD001 reduces tumor burden in an intracardiac colon cancer circulating tumor cell xenotransplantation model. Analysis of AKT isoform‐specific knockdowns in CTC‐MCC‐41 reveals differentially regulated proteins and phospho‐proteins by liquid chromatography coupled mass spectrometry. Circulating tumor cells
