MdWRKY40 promotes wounding-induced anthocyanin biosynthesis in association with MdMYB1 and undergoes MdBT2-mediated degradation.

open access: yesNew Phytologist, 2019
Wounding stress leads to anthocyanin accumulation. However, the underlying molecular mechanism remains elusive. In this study, MdWRKY40 was found to promote wounding-induced anthocyanin biosynthesis in association with MdMYB1 and undergo MdBT2-mediated ...

Genetic Surfaceome E. coli Reprogramming Enables Selective Water Oxidation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A novel enzymatic material based on bilirubin oxidase (BOD) surface‐expressed on E. coli for effective electrocatalysis is reported. With this material, highly efficient and selective water oxidation is achieved, a critical half reaction for synthetic photosynthesis. Abstract Programming catalytic behavior at the microbial genome level is a frontier in

4-Coumarate 3-hydroxylase in the lignin biosynthesis pathway is a cytosolic ascorbate peroxidase

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Lignin biosynthesis is evolutionarily conserved among higher plants and features a critical 3-hydroxylation reaction involving phenolic esters. However, increasing evidence questions the involvement of a single pathway to lignin formation in vascular ...

New Perspectives on Semiconducting Conjugated Oligomers for Neuromodulation in Hydra vulgaris

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Semiconducting organic compounds, thiophene‐based, modify the rhythmic electrical activity of the cnidarian Hydra vulgaris acting on specific neuronal circuits. The ETE‐S trimer also forms electronically conducting wires in the living tissues of the animal.

Iron-sulphur protein catalysed [4+2] cycloadditions in natural product biosynthesis

open access: yesNature Communications
To the best of our knowledge, enzymes that catalyse intramolecular Diels-Alder ([4+2] cycloaddition) reactions are frequently reported in natural product biosynthesis; however, no native enzymes utilising Lewis acid catalysis have been reported ...

The accumulation of orotic acid by a pyrimidineless mutant of Neurospora [PDF]

open access: yes, 1948
The discovery of orotic acid (1,2-carboxyuracil) in cow's milk by Biscaro and Belloni (1), followed by its identification and synthesis (2-4), led to a number of speculations as to its biological origin and significance (,3,5,6).
