Chromatin-level regulation of biosynthetic gene clusters [PDF]

open access: yesNature Chemical Biology, 2009
Loss-of-function Aspergillus nidulans CclA, a Bre2 ortholog involved in histone H3 lysine 4 methylation, activated the expression of cryptic secondary metabolite clusters in A. nidulans. One new cluster generated monodictyphenone, emodin and emodin derivatives, whereas a second encoded two anti-osteoporosis polyketides, F9775A and F9775B.

The erythromycin biosynthetic gene cluster of Aeromicrobium erythreum

open access: yesJournal of Industrial Microbiology & Biotechnology, 2004
The erythromycin-biosynthetic (ery) gene cluster of Aeromicrobium erythreum was cloned and characterized. The 55.4-kb cluster contains 25 ery genes. Homologues were found for each gene in the previously characterized ery gene cluster from Saccharopolyspora erythraea. In addition, four new predicted ery genes were identified.

Integrated metabolomic and transcriptomic analysis reveals the biosynthesis mechanism of dihydrochalcones in sweet tea (Lithocarpus litseifolius)

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
The demand for plant-based, low-calorie natural sweeteners is increasing. Four dihydrochalcones (DHCs), namely phloretin, phlorizin, trilobatin, and sieboldin, have been identified in the leaves of Lithocarpus litseifolius.

Screening and Transcriptional Analysis of Polyketide Synthases and Non-ribosomal Peptide Synthetases in Bacterial Strains From Krubera–Voronja Cave

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Identification of novel bioactive compounds represents an important field in modern biomedical research. Microorganisms of the underexplored environments, such as deserts, hot springs, oceans, and caves are highly promising candidates for screening such ...

Manipulation of hormone biosynthetic genes in transgenic plants

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Biotechnology, 2000
Modification of plant hormone biosynthesis through the introduction of bacterial genes is a natural form of genetic engineering, which has been exploited in numerous studies on hormone function. Recently, biosynthetic pathways have been largely elucidated for most of the plant hormone classes, and genes encoding many of the enzymes have been cloned ...

Expression of two genes of paclitaxel biosynthetic pathway during germination of Taxus baccata zygotic embryos

open access: yes, 2010
The spatial and temporal expression of dbat and dbtnbt genes involved in the later steps of paclitaxel biosynthesis in relation to baccatin III and paclitaxel accumulation in Taxus baccata L. germinating embryos and seedlings was investigated. The steady-

An Alkaloid Biosynthetic Gene Bundle in Animals

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society
Alkaloids include some of the most impactful molecules used in science and medicine. While plant alkaloids are well explored, much less is known about the diverse bioactive alkaloids from the animal kingdom. To solve this problem, we developed a computational method to discover genes that are bundled in chromosomal regions, enabling agnostic discovery ...
