Multidimensional OMICs reveal ARID1A orchestrated control of DNA damage, splicing, and cell cycle in normal‐like and malignant urothelial cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the frequently mutated chromatin remodeler ARID1A, a subunit of the SWI/SNF cBAF complex, results in less open chromatin, alternative splicing, and the failure to stop cells from progressing through the cell cycle after DNA damage in bladder (cancer) cells. Created in BioRender. Epigenetic regulators, such as the SWI/SNF complex, with important

Biotech Innovation in Europe's Food and Drink Processing Industry: Promise, Barriers and Exploitation [PDF]

open access: yes
Early optimism about the potential of biotechnology to contribute to "the production of food with improved quality and nutritional content" (ACOST, 1990) has waned in the face of consumer resistance to the use of genetically modified organisms in food ...

Escape from TGF‐β‐induced senescence promotes aggressive hallmarks in epithelial hepatocellular carcinoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Chronic TGF‐β exposure drives epithelial HCC cells from a senescent state to a TGF‐β resistant mesenchymal phenotype. This transition is characterized by the loss of Smad3‐mediated signaling, escape from senescence, enhanced invasiveness and metastatic potential, and upregulation of key resistance modulators such as MARK1 and GRM8, ultimately promoting

Introduction to Bioinformatics [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2009
Bioinformatics is a new discipline that addresses the need to manage and interpret the data that in the past decade was massively generated by genomic research. This discipline represents the convergence of genomics, biotechnology and information technology, and encompasses analysis and interpretation of data, modeling of biological phenomena, and ...

Enhancing corrosion resistance of biodegradable magnesium with dicalcium phosphate dihydrate and Chlorella sp. biomass

open access: yesiScience
Summary: Magnesium shows promise as a material for temporary fixation, yet its rapid corrosion poses health risks due to metal ion release. To mitigate these concerns, a biofunctionalization approach involving dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCPD ...

ShcD adaptor protein drives invasion of triple negative breast cancer cells by aberrant activation of EGFR signaling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identified adaptor protein ShcD as upregulated in triple‐negative breast cancer and found its expression to be correlated with reduced patient survival and increased invasion in cell models. Using a proteomic screen, we identified novel ShcD binding partners involved in EGFR signaling pathways.

CNN-FL for Biotechnology Industry Empowered by Internet-of-BioNano Things and Digital Twins [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Digital twins (DTs) are revolutionizing the biotechnology industry by enabling sophisticated digital representations of biological assets, microorganisms, drug development processes, and digital health applications. However, digital twinning at micro and nano scales, particularly in modeling complex entities like bacteria, presents significant ...

Missing and spurious interaction in additive, multiplicative and odds ratio models [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Additive, multiplicative, and odd ratio neutral models for interactions are for long advocated and controversial in epidemiology. We show here that these commonly advocated models are biased, leading to spurious interactions, and missing true interactions.
