On the degree growth of iterated birational maps

open access: yes, 2019
We construct a family of birational maps acting on two dimensional projective varieties, for which the growth of the degrees of the iterates is cubic. It is known that this growth can be bounded, linear, quadratic or exponential for such maps acting on two dimensional compact Kähler varieties.

Lie symmetries of birational maps preserving genus 0 fibrations

open access: yes
We prove that any planar birational integrable map, which preserves a fibration given by genus 0 curves has a Lie symmetry and some associated invariant measures.

On birational maps from cubic threefolds

open access: yes, 2015
We characterise smooth curves in a smooth cubic threefold whose blow-ups produce a weak-Fano threefold. These are curves C of genus g and degree d, such that (i) 2(d −5) ≤ g and d ≤ 6; (ii) C does not admit a 3-secant line in the cubic threefold.
