Onomatopoeic bird names in English

open access: yes, 2014
The paper aims to analyze onomatopoeia in bird names in English. Three basic types of onomatopoeic bird names are distinguished: pure onomatopoeia, in which the names reflect the birds’ vocalizations without any other subsequent morphological changes ...

Asymmetric Whisker‐Inspired Sensor Pairs for Enhanced Airflow Sensing on Drones

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This work incorporates asymmetric cross‐sections into a whisker‐inspired sensor pair to enhance airflow sensing. By comparing signals between two offset asymmetric whiskers, the system improves flow heading estimation and identifies the presence of fan‐generated wind during quadrotor flight.

Ultralow‐Power Floating‐Gate InGaZnO Content‐Addressable Memory for Wearable Electrocardiogram Anomaly Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This study introduces a subthreshold in‐memory anomaly detection architecture for wearable ECG monitoring using floating‐gate IGZO content‐addressable memories on a flexible substrate. Area‐engineered coupling provides a high subthreshold slope, while subthreshold operation realizes intrinsic exponential distance evaluation and linear voltage sensing ...

Distributed State Estimation for Mobile Robots in LiDAR Sensor Networks With Intermittent Inertial Measurements

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A scalable distributed observer framework for LiDAR sensor networks is presented for robust tracking and pose estimation of mobile robots. By combining adaptable 3D detection, clustering‐based communication reduction, and intermittent inertial fusion, accurate and efficient estimation is achieved under occlusions and sensing constraints, with formally ...

Low‐Voltage Operation of IGZO Memtransistors Enabled by Coupling Enhancement Through 2T Drain‐Driven Operation for Neuromorphic Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A two‐terminal IGZO memtransistor enabling low‐voltage operation is demonstrated through coupling enhancement. By utilizing drain‐induced Fowler–Nordheim tunneling, the device achieves programming below 10 V with a large memory window and high on/off ratio.

Uncovering renewable energy policy impact channels on land values, the local farm structure, and farmland heterogeneity

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract Germany's Renewable Energy Sources Act (REA), enacted in 2000 and subsequently amended, subsidized national renewable energy production with fixed feed‐in tariffs for renewable energy sources (RE) from wind, solar, and biogas. Empirical studies suggest that the policy was creating windfall effects for landowners and attribute farmland use ...
