AI–Guided 4D Printing of Carnivorous Plants–Inspired Microneedles for Accelerated Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents an artificial intelligence (AI)‐guided 4D‐printed microneedle platform inspired by carnivorous plants for wound healing. A thermo‐responsive shape memory polymer enables body temperature–triggered self‐coiling for autonomous wound closure.

Advances in Magnesium‐Based Thermoelectrics: A Critical Review

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Magnesium‐based thermoelectric materials have emerged as promising candidates for low‐to‐mid‐temperature energy conversion due to their abundance, low cost, and competitive performance. This review summarizes recent advances in Mg3X2, MgAgSb, and Mg2X systems, covering transport mechanisms, fabrication strategies, stability challenges, and device ...

Declines of Aerial Insectivores in North America Follow a Geographic Gradient

open access: yesAvian Conservation and Ecology, 2010
North American birds that feed on aerial insects are experiencing widespread population declines. An analysis of the North American Breeding Bird Survey trend estimates for 1966 to 2006 suggests that declines in this guild are significantly stronger than

Designable van der Waals Crystal for Artificial Neuronal Cell Mimicking

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Designable van der Waals crystal has been demonstrated for device‐scale neuronal cell mimicking. The structural similarity between ion‐channel in biological membranes and layered vdW lattices is realized with nano‐crystallization via Ar + H2S plasma sulfurization.

Information Transmission Strategies for Self‐Organized Robotic Aggregation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
In this review, we discuss how information transmission influences the neighbor‐based self‐organized aggregation of swarm robots. We focus specifically on local interactions regarding information transfer and categorize previous studies based on the functions of the information exchanged.

Do Striped Hyenas Have a Sweet Tooth? First Evidence of Honey Consumption by a Hyaenid

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Dietary flexibility in carnivores remains an underexplored aspect of their ecology, particularly the consumption of non‐meat foods. While striped hyenas (Hyaena hyaena) are primarily scavengers, they are known to occasionally consume plant material ...

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

Timing matters: cloud cover and date influence probability of detecting nesting Chimney Swifts (Chaetura pelagica)

open access: yesAvian Conservation and Ecology, 2019
One third of bird species in North America need immediate conservation action. Effective management and recovery actions for species of conservation concern require accurate methods of monitoring species occurrence that limit the incidence of ...

Integrating counts from rigorous surveys and participatory science to better understand spatiotemporal variation in population processes

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution
Knowledge of variation in population processes (e.g. population growth) across broad spatiotemporal scales is fundamental to population ecology and critical for conservation decision‐making. Count data from rigorous surveys (e.g.
