Boosting Photo‐Pyroelectric Effect via Tunable Polarization and Interfacial Defect Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reports Ba(Ti0.85Zr0.15)O3 nanocatalysts with enhanced polarization and oxygen‐vacancy‐rich interfaces for efficient NIR‐II photo‐pyroelectric therapy. Zr doping boosts the pyroelectric coefficient and accelerates polarization switching, while oxygen vacancies improve photothermal conversion and surface reactivity.

The food spectrum of sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus L.) and kestrel (Falco tinnunculus L.) in the Chřiby Upland

open access: yesActa Universitatis Agriculturae et Silviculturae Mendelianae Brunensis, 2009
In 2006–2008, mapping the sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus L.) and kestrel (Falco tinnunculus L.) occurred in the SE part of the Chřiby Upland. At the same time, the food spectrum of these birds of prey was determined during nesting periods.

Monitoring and Research on Wading Birds in the Water Conservation Areas ofthe Everglades: The 1996 Nesting season [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
This project was initiated to continue monitoring reproductive responses of wading birds in the central Everglades, and to investigate two areas of research considered key to understanding and managing wading birds: nestling energetics, and factors ...

Decoding Naturalistic Episodic Memory with Artificial Intelligence and Brain‐Machine Interface

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Episodic memory weaves together what, where, and when of experience into a personal narrative. Cutting‐edge AI models may decode this intricate process in real‐life settings, revealing how neural activity encodes naturalistic memories. By merging AI with brain–machine interfaces, researchers are edging closer to mapping and even engineering memory ...

Differential detectability of rodents and birds in scats of ocelots, Leopardus pardalis (Mammalia: Felidae)

open access: yesZoologia (Curitiba), 2011
Scat analysis is a valuable tool for the description and quantification of mammal diets. However, estimating the number of prey eaten using prey remains found in feces is difficult mainly due to differential digestibility of prey.

Multidirectional chromosome painting substantiates the occurrence of extensive genomic reshuffling within Accipitriformes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BACKGROUND: Previous cross-species painting studies with probes from chicken (Gallus gallus) chromosomes 1-10 and a paint pool of nineteen microchromosomes have revealed that the drastic karyotypic reorganization in Accipitridae is due to extensive ...

Genetic Control of Tissue Remodeling by a Non‐Coding SNP in ITGA8 Explains Carotenoid‐Based Color Polymorphism in Marine Mollusks

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, the orange‐muscle giant abalone (Haliotis gigantea) is used as a model to identify a non‐coding SNP that disrupts the interaction between ITGA8 pre‐mRNA and the splicing factor ILF2, leading to altered ITGA8 splicing. These splicing changes promote carotenoid accumulation in abalone muscle through the regulation of tissue remodeling ...

Sustainable Protection of the Lesser Spotted Eagle in Germany by Purchasing Land and Managing the Reproduction Rate

open access: yesПернатые хищники и их охрана, 2018
The Lesser Spotted Eagle (Clanga [Aquila] pomarina) is the most endangered German eagle species, and is close to extirpation in the country. Various factors are responsible for the decline of the population, and the shrinking of its distribution to a ...
