Surface Adhesion Engineering for Armored Metasurfaces and Beyond

Targeting primary causes of dysfunctionality in optical systems, an “armored” metasurface is developed based on Persson's model and Hertzian theory, enabling anti‐dust, anti‐scratch, anti‐impact, and anti‐water, heat resistance capabilities, alongside excellent optical antireflection performance.

Interplay of Polar Order and Positional Order in Liquid Crystals–Observation of Re‐entrant Ferroelectric Nematic Phase

In most systems the degree of order increases monotonically with decreasing temperature. Here we report that due to unfavourable dipole interactions within the smectic layers, the lamellar structure of a liquid crystal may be spontaneously destroyed by the development of polar, ferroelectric order.

[HgX2] Linear Group Enabled Ultraviolet Birefringent Crystal RbHg5Br11 with Strong Optical Anisotropy and Wide Bandgap

Based on the “linear‐group” design strategy, a high performance ultraviolet birefringent material RbHg5Br11 with aligned linear [HgBr2] units, demonstrating a large birefringence (Δn ≈ 0.35@546 nm); a wide optical bandgap (≈3.73 eV); as well as a good crystal growth habit; is rationally designed; and fabricated by a simple solution method.

Exceptional Enhancement of Optical Anisotropy Achieved via the Strategy of Combining Rigid Groups with High Symmetry and π‐Conjugated Organic Groups in Hybrid Fluorides

We successfully synthesized two types of strong optically anisotropic organic‐inorganic hybrid fluorosilicate birefringent crystals: (C6H5N2)2SiF6 and (C10H10N2)SiF6, by adopting a strategy where the inorganic rigid groups SiF6 guided the parallel arrangement of the organic π‐conjugated groups.
