Supramolecular Chiral Assembly of Open‐Shell Quinoids With Chiral Additives and Their Spin‐Dependent Transport in Magneto Field‐Effect Transistors

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Open‐shell quinoids with intrinsic spins are assembled into chiral supramolecular structures via blending with chiral additives. Thermal annealing induces stable co‐crystallization, leading to a 30‐fold amplification of chirality (gabs = 1.23 × 10−2). Significantly, this study represents the first integration of spin‐possessing chiral assemblies into ...

Birefringence imaging

open access: yes, 2001
Many transparent materials are optically anisotropic i.e. the refractive index varies with the polarisation orientation of the light. The variation, birefringence, can reveal the underlying anisotropy of the material, whether this anisotropy is caused by

Ladderization: A Powerful Strategy for Controlling Supramolecular Helical Ordering, Amplifying Asymmetry, and Emerging and Enhancing Circularly Polarized Luminescence

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
π‐Conjugated chiral ladder polymers with enantiopure side groups exhibit helical ordering‐induced circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) in poor solvents and in the film state. Vapor‐annealed films show a particularly strong CPL with glum values of > 0.1. Blending chiral/achiral ladder polymers markedly amplifies the asymmetry in the film.

Birefringence characterization of fibres without polarizer

open access: yes, 1987
Two new simple interferometric methods for birefringence measurements are described applying to either low- or high-birefringence fibres and to any kind of birefringence, the set-up being free of a polarizing ...

Liquid Crystal Polymers as Intrinsically Magnetic and Programmable Soft Materials for Microrobotics

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Liquid crystal polymers (LCPs) are proposed as intrinsically magnetic, programmable, soft materials for microrobotics. Magnetic torque‐driven manipulation of LCP microobjects is achieved and characterized in terms of the step‐out frequency, reaching ∼0.6 Hz in a ∼250 mT magnetic field. The orientation of LCP microobjects in the magnetic field and their

A Newly Discovered Tablet‐Making Facility in Nineveh: Insights From Scientific Analysis

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper addresses the question of tablet technology in the Neo‐Assyrian capital city of Nineveh. Recent excavations in the lower town of Nineveh by the Iraqi–Italian Archaeological Expedition uncovered an exceptional assemblage of more than 200 tablets from an elite residence that appears to have included a scriptorium.
