Pancake Lenses through Curved Lamination for Compact Virtual Reality

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article presents an ultrathin VR optical system based on a 1.35 in. microdisplay, leveraging curved lamination technology. Compared to mainstream solutions, the proposed design demonstrates superior compactness (volume compression by 12%) and enhanced optical performance.

Stress Direction Measurement Based on Polarization State in Optical Fibers Using the Quaternion Method

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2017
The state of polarization (SOP) in a polarization-maintaining fiber subjected to external stress is studied using the quaternion method. The stress principal axis on the Poincare sphere is independent of intrinsic birefringence, but has a linear ...

Evaluating the Impact of Cellulose Nanocrystals on the Performance of Polycarbonate Thin‐Film Nanocomposite Membranes for Treating Oily Wastewater

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A new type of thin‐film nanocomposite (TFN) membrane was synthesized by incorporating cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) into a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) top layer on a polycarbonate (PC) substrate via dip‐coating. The synthesized TFC and TFN membranes (PC/PVA TFC and PC/PVA‐CNC TFN membranes) were evaluated using contact angle measurement, field ...

Optical Sensor System for 3D Jones Matrix Reconstruction of Optical Anisotropy Maps of Self-Assembled Polycrystalline Soft Matter Films

open access: yesSensors
Our work uses a polarization matrix formalism to analyze and algorithmically represent optical anisotropy by open dehydration of blood plasma films. Analytical relations for Jones matrix reconstruction of optical birefringence maps of protein crystal ...

Suspension of the fiber mode-cleaner launcher and measurement of the high extinction-ratio (10^{-9}) ellipsometer for the Q & A experiment

open access: yes, 2006
The Q & A experiment, first proposed and started in 1994, provides a feasible way of exploring the quantum vacuum through the detection of vacuum birefringence effect generated by QED loop diagram and the detection of the polarization rotation effect ...

Interconversion of Optical to Terahertz Pulses in Nonlinear Beta Barium Borate Crystal

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Low‐temperature β‐phase barium borate (β‐BBO) is an important nonlinear crystal, widely utilized for optical second‐harmonic (SH) generation. Recent re‐measurements of refractive indices in the terahertz (THz) range reveal that β‐BBO is a positive uniaxial crystal.

A continuous isotropic-nematic liquid crystalline transition of F-actin solutions

open access: yes, 2002
The phase transition from the isotropic (I) to nematic (N) liquid crystalline suspension of F-actin of average length $3~\mu$m or above was studied by local measurements of optical birefringence and protein concentration. Both parameters were detected to

Histology and fossil diagenesis of a pterosaur tooth from the Crato Formation (Lower Cretaceous of Brazil)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Pterosaur dental biology remains poorly understood despite its importance for comprehending feeding strategies and flight adaptations. Here, we present the first comprehensive histological analysis of an ornithocheiriform pterosaur tooth from the Lower Cretaceous Crato Formation (Santana Group, Northeast Brazil).
