Enhanced Electron‐Capturing by Single‐Atomic Iron on Pyridinic N‐Deficient Carbon Drives Self‐Oxidative Degradation of Pollutants

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Pyrolysis of FeOx/g‐C3N4 and ZIF‐8 is performed to introduce Fe single atom and pyridinic nitrogen vacancies onto N‐doped carbon. This modification enables the materials to efficiently extract electrons from ciprofloxacin (CIP) and activate dissolved oxygen. 100% of CIP was degraded within 1 min without adding any oxidant.

Are Structural Analogues to Bisphenol A Safe Alternatives?

open access: yes, 2014
Background: Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical with widespread human exposure suspected of causing low-dose effects. Thus, a need for developing alternatives to BPA exists. Structural analogues of BPA have already been detected in foods and humans.

Occurrence of phthalates and bisphenol A and F in the environment

open access: yes, 2022
S.1429-1438Certain xenoestrogens, namely bisphenol A (BPA), bisphenol F (BPF), butylbenzyl phthalate (BBP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP), and di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP), were measured in various compartments (surface water, sediments, sewage treatment ...

Foeniculum vulgare Extract Enhances Estrogen Levels, Total Antioxidant Capacity, and Protect Ovarian Histology in Rats Exposed to Bisphenol A

open access: yesEndocrinology Research and Practice, 2023
Objective: Bisphenol A (BPA) is an endocrine disruptor that interferes with estrogen (E2) levels, while Foeniculum vulgare L. (FV), a plant with phytoestrogen compounds and medicinal properties, has been suggested as a potential remedy against endocrine ...

Biomass‐derived hydrochars as eco‐friendly adsorbents for wastewater treatment applications

open access: yesEnvironmental Progress &Sustainable Energy, EarlyView.
Abstract Emerging organic pollutants (EOPs), such as diethyl phthalate (DEP), bisphenol A (BPA), and methylene blue (MB), are only partially removed in conventional wastewater treatment plants. This study assesses hydrochars produced by hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) of spruce bark (SB), vine shoots (VSs), and wheat straw (WSs) for removing three ...

The effects of the natural vertebrate steroid 17β-oestradiol and the xeno-biotic vertebrate oestrogen receptor agonist bisphenol-A on reproduction in selected temperate freshwater gastropods: the potential for (neuro-) endocrine disruption

open access: yes, 2010
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University, 2010.Evidence of feminising effects, including additional or enlarged female organs, have been reported in the (sub)-tropical freshwater prosobranch ...

Endocrine-disrupting compounds in urban rivers of the southern border of Mexico: Occurrence and ecological risk assessment

open access: yesEmerging Contaminants
The occurrence of seven endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs) in four urban rivers on the southern border of Mexico was studied in this work. The selected EDCs were 17β-estradiol (E2), estriol (E3), 17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2), bisphenol A (BPA ...

Multi‐Energy‐Driven Photocatalysis: Mechanism, Progress, and Perspective

open access: yesExploration, EarlyView.
Photocatalysis technology can be utilized in water splitting, carbon dioxide reduction, pollutant degradation, and chemical synthesis. Introducing external energy fields, including thermal energy, electrical energy, magnetic energy, mechanical energy, and microwave energy, has been considered as a promising method to improve photocatalytic performance ...

Use of the γH2AX assay for assessing the genotoxicity of bisphenol A and bisphenol F in human cell lines

open access: yes, 2011
International audienceBisphenol A (BPA) and bisphenol F (BPF) are widely used to manufacture plastics and epoxy resins. Both compounds have been shown to be present in the environment and are food contaminants, with, as a result, a low but chronic ...

Effect of Ammonium Polyphosphate/Silicate Content on the Postfire Mechanics of Epoxy Glass‐Fiber Composites Using Facile Chocolate Bar‐Inspired Structures

open access: yesFire and Materials, Volume 49, Issue 3, Page 329-346, April 2025.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the postfire mechanical properties of epoxy glass‐fiber reinforced composites (EP GFRCs) using increasing concentrations of ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and inorganic silicate (InSi) to modify the char and fire residue.
