Shingled Magnetic Recording on Bit Patterned Media
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2010Shingled magnetic recording on bit patterned media with areal densities of 2-4 Tbit/in2 is examined. The use of a shingled recording scheme allows wider write poles and dots with higher anisotropy to be used. The down-track and cross-track write margins can be tailored to suit the tolerances of the drive by varying the bit cell aspect ratio.

Twin iterative detection for bit-patterned media recording systems
2017 IEEE International Magnetics Conference (INTERMAG), 2017Bit-patterned media recording (BPMR) has been developed into a technology for the next generation of hard disc drives, which can push area density beyond 1 Tb/in2 for satisfying the ever increasing demand of storing massive amounts of data. One of the major challenges in BPMR systems is 2-D interference that is regarded as a gist of degrading the ...

Repeatable Runout Following in Bit Patterned Media Recording
2014 Conference on Information Storage and Processing Systems, 2014An adaptive feedforward controller design for tracking repeatable runout (RRO) in bit patterned media recording (BMPR) is proposed for single stage hard disk drives (HDD). The technique is based on a modified filtered-x least mean squares (MFX-LMS) algorithm with deterministic periodic input, and a novel variable step size that boosts both the ...

Soft Information Scheme Based Multilayer Perceptron in Coded Bit-Patterned Media Recording System
International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communication Systems, 2022In order to increase the efficiency of the recording system, both the inter-symbol interference (ISI) and inter-track interference (ITI) effects that impede the increase of an areal density (AD) in an ultra-high magnetic recording system, such as a bit ...

Capped bit patterned media for high density magnetic recording
Journal of Applied Physics, 2009A capped composite patterned medium design is described which comprises an array of hard elements exchange coupled to a continuous cap layer. The role of the cap layer is to lower the write field of the individual hard element and introduce ferromagnetic exchange interactions between hard elements to compensate the magnetostatic interactions.

Optimization of Layer Thicknesses for Dual-Layer Bit-Patterned Media Recording (BPMR) Systems
IEEE transactions on magneticsTo increase the areal density (AD) of magnetic recording, we have investigated the effect of the thicknesses of the individual layers in dual-layer bit-patterned media recording (BPMR) systems.

Micromagnetic specifications for recording self-assembled bit-patterned media
Journal of Applied Physics, 2012A design including exchange coupled composite (ECC) bits in hexagonal arrays and a multi-pole write head is proposed to meet the requirement of 9.7 × 10−4 bit error rate, 4 nm magnetic fly height, 5% switching field distribution, 5% synchronization error, and 5% jitter error to achieve 2.9 Tbits/in.2 bit-patterned recording.

Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording on Dual Structure Bit Patterned Media
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2021Heat-assisted magnetic recording on bit patterned media dots with two magnetic structures is modeled. If the magnetic structures have different Curie temperatures two bits of information can be stored in each dot by writing at high and low temperatures. The areal density capability of the dual structure media was calculated and found to be in excess of

Thermal Effects in Heat Assisted Bit Patterned Media Recording
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2009It is a big challenge to achieve recording density of 10 Tb/in2 for magnetic recording. Two promising technologies have been proposed for achieving density beyond 1 Tb/in2: heat assisted magnetic recording and bit patterned media. Owing to limitation of minimum media grain size or requirement of higher writing magnetic field, the densities of both ...
