Twin iterative detection for bit-patterned media recording systems
2017 IEEE International Magnetics Conference (INTERMAG), 2017Bit-patterned media recording (BPMR) has been developed into a technology for the next generation of hard disc drives, which can push area density beyond 1 Tb/in2 for satisfying the ever increasing demand of storing massive amounts of data. One of the major challenges in BPMR systems is 2-D interference that is regarded as a gist of degrading the ...

MFM analysis of recorded bit patterns of perpendicular media
Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2001Abstract Read/write characteristics of a perpendicular double-layered medium with various thicknesses of soft magnetic layer δsoft using a ring head were investigated by analyzing the MFM image of the recorded bit pattern and reproduced waveform. It was found that the recording bits were written by the field of the head gap for the medium with δsoft ...

Analysis of recording in bit patterned media with parameter distributions
Journal of Applied Physics, 2009Recording in bit patterned media (BPM) requires strict synchronization of the signal misregistration time. A scheme is presented based on micromagnetic simulation of a single element which allows defining a writing window (WW) permitting for synchronized recording. The WW behavior for random distributions of the anisotropy field is studied.

Repeatable Runout Following in Bit Patterned Media Recording
2014 Conference on Information Storage and Processing Systems, 2014An adaptive feedforward controller design for tracking repeatable runout (RRO) in bit patterned media recording (BMPR) is proposed for single stage hard disk drives (HDD). The technique is based on a modified filtered-x least mean squares (MFX-LMS) algorithm with deterministic periodic input, and a novel variable step size that boosts both the ...

Modeling for write synchronization in bit patterned media recording
Journal of Applied Physics, 2012Bit patterned media recording (BPMR) is a contender for next generation technology after conventional granular magnetic recording (CGMR) can no longer sustain the continued areal density growth. BPMR has several technological hurdles that need to be overcome, among them is solving the problem of write synchronization.

Study of fractionally-spaced equalizers for bit-patterned media recording
2015 IEEE Magnetics Conference (INTERMAG), 2015Bit-patterned media recording (BPMR) is a promising technology to enhance the areal density (AD) of hard disk drives beyond the limit imposed by the current perpendicular recording technology. Practically, a $T$ -spaced equalizer is employed in a conventional (symbol-rate) BPMR system to shape the overall channel response to a target response ...

Inter-symbol interference compensation for bit patterned media recording storage
2015 International Conference on Information Networking (ICOIN), 2015Bit patterned media recording is one of the candidates for the next generation magnetic data storage. When the storage density is increased, the space between the islands narrows. Therefore, it has inter-symbol interference (ISI) in all directions, unlike in the serially in-and-out storage systems.

Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording on Dual Structure Bit Patterned Media
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2021Heat-assisted magnetic recording on bit patterned media dots with two magnetic structures is modeled. If the magnetic structures have different Curie temperatures two bits of information can be stored in each dot by writing at high and low temperatures. The areal density capability of the dual structure media was calculated and found to be in excess of

Capped bit patterned media for high density magnetic recording
Journal of Applied Physics, 2009A capped composite patterned medium design is described which comprises an array of hard elements exchange coupled to a continuous cap layer. The role of the cap layer is to lower the write field of the individual hard element and introduce ferromagnetic exchange interactions between hard elements to compensate the magnetostatic interactions.
