Summary Maximum bite force is an important metric of feeding performance that defines the dietary ecology of many vertebrates. In mammals, theoretical analyses and empirical studies suggest a trade-off between maximum bite force and gape at behavioural

An electronic system is presented consisting of a silver thin‐film electrode on a polyimide substrate working both as a heating element and a resistive temperature sensor, generating millisecond heat pulses with very fast heating and cooling rates and a flat peak temperature with a tunable duration.

A feeding station is the area of forage a grazing animal can reach without moving its forefeet. Grazing behavior can be divided into residence within feeding stations (with bites as benefits) and movement between feeding stations (with steps as costs ...

BACKGROUND HTLV-1 infection is endemic to Central African populations. The risk factors for HTLV-1 acquisition in humans via the interspecies transmission of STLV-1 (its simian counterpart) remain largely unknown.

A Different Perspective on the Solid Lubrication Performance of Black Phosphorous: Friend or Foe?
Researchers investigate black phosphorous (BP) as a standalone solid lubricant coating through ball‐on‐disc linear‐reciprocating sliding experiments in dry conditions. Testing on different metals shows BP doesn't universally reduce friction and wear. However, it achieves 33% friction reduction on rougher iron surfaces and 23% wear reduction on aluminum.

The fabrication and post‐treatment via solvent annealing of poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate‐based electrodes using spray deposition in a roll‐to‐roll setup are presented. The decrease in sheet resistance and its correlation with nanostructure and molecular structure in the electrodes as a function of the processing parameters is ...

PBTTT‐OR‐R, a C14‐alkoxy/alkyl‐PBTTT polymer derivative, is of substantial interest for optoelectronics due to its specific fullerene intercalation behavior and enhanced charge‐transfer absorption. Comparing this polymer with (S) and without (O) homocoupling defects reveals that PBTTT‐OR‐R(O) forms stable co‐crystals with PC61BM, while PBTTT‐OR‐R(S ...

Cytokines Gene Expression on Macrophages Exposed to Triatoma Salivary Gland Extracts [PDF]
Triatoma sanguisuga and Triatoma Indictiva are vectors of Chagas disease. These two vectors goes to the host and bites down to feed on blood, which is necessary for the egg laying process. The disease however is not spread through their bite, but through

Structurally Colored Physically Unclonable Functions with Ultra‐Rich and Stable Encoding Capacity
This study reports a design strategy for generating bright‐field resolvable physically unclonable functions with extremely rich encoding capacity coupled with outstanding thermal and chemical stability. The optical response emerges from thickness‐dependent structural color formation in ZnO features, which are fabricated by physical vapor deposition ...
