Light manipulation of mosquito behaviour: acute and sustained photic suppression of biting activity in the Anopheles gambiae malaria mosquito

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2017
BackgroundHost-seeking behaviours in anopheline mosquitoes are time-of-day specific, with a greater propensity for nocturnal biting. We investigated how a short exposure to light presented during the night or late day can inhibit biting activity and ...

Tunable Thermoshrinkable Hydrogels for 4D Fabrication of Cell‐Seeded Channels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A thermoresponsive polymer with methacrylate groups for photo‐cross‐linking, based on polyethylene glycol, N‐isopropylacrylamide, and 2‐hydroxyethyl acrylate is synthetized to yield hydrogels that shrink upon temperature increase. The new polymer enables the fabrication of cell‐laden perfusable channels with diameters below 200 µm by combining ...

From eggs to bites: do ovitrap data provide reliable estimates of Aedes albopictus biting females?

open access: yesPeerJ, 2017
Background Aedes albopictus is an aggressive invasive mosquito species that represents a serious health concern not only in tropical areas, but also in temperate regions due to its role as vector of arboviruses.

Ternary Transistors With Reconfigurable Polarities

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polarity‐reconfigurable ternary transistors are demonstrated using black phosphorus homojunction with asymmetric contacts and split‐gate structures. Suppression of majority carrier injection, while Fowler–Nordheim tunneling of low‐density minority carriers persists, enables a well‐defined intermediate state with improved on/off ratios.

Oral habit frequency of 7-15 years old homeless children

open access: yesPadjadjaran Journal of Dentistry, 2014
Introduction: Oral habit is a bad habit that causes dental changes if habit are continued for long periods of time. Oral habit included digit sucking, lip sucking or biting, nail biting, mouth breathing.

Matrix Tropism Influences Endometriotic Cell Attachment Patterns

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of substrate stiffness and multicellular coculture on endometriotic cell attachment to extracellular matrix‐laden microarrayed islands is reported. This model investigates early endometriotic cell attachment, aiming to capture “lesion initiation events”.
