SIMULATED MAXIMUM LIKELIHOOD FOR DOUBLE-BOUNDED REFERENDUM MODELS [PDF]
Although joint estimation of referendum-type contingent value (CV) survey responses using maximum-likelihood models is preferred to single-equation estimation, it has been largely disregarded because estimation involves evaluating multivariate normal ...

Hybrid physics–data‐driven modeling for sea ice thermodynamics and transfer learning
Icepack–NN, a machine‐learning‐based hybrid version of the sea‐ice column model Icepack, is developed to correct state‐dependent forecast errors arising from misspecified snow thermodynamics, using neural networks applied online within the physical model.

Some nonparametric diagnostic Statistical procedures and their asymptotic behavior. [PDF]
In this thesis some new, nonparametric methods are introduced to explore uni- or bivariate data. First, we introduce the "shorth plot", a graphical method to depict the main features of one-dimensional probability distributions.

Ensemble reliability and the signal‐to‐noise paradox in ECMWF subseasonal forecasts
We derive a general expression for the ratio of predictable components (RPC) in terms of correlation, spread–error ratio, and total variance ratio. Physical constraints on the admissible solutions (i.e., real‐valued and non‐negative variances) provide a mechanism to identify statistically paradoxical sample combinations of reliability and correlation ...

ABSTRACT Low‐cost sensors are increasingly being used, and also considered for usage in regulatory contexts like air quality monitoring. Proper sensor calibration and uncertainty evaluation is necessary in such cases. With the advance of mobile sensors, for example, installed on top of a car, new test and calibration paradigms are required, in ...

Modelling dependence in a ratemaking procedure with multivariate Poisson regression models [PDF]
When actuaries face with the problem of pricing an insurance contract that contains different types of coverage, such as a motor insurance or homeowner's insurance policy, they usually assume that types of claim are independent.

Environmental Stressors Influence Spatial Complexity in a Fluvial Macrophyte meadow
This research investigates the nonlinear relationships between environmental stressors and the fine‐scale spatial complexity of a fluvial macrophytes meadow. The use of multivariate spatial analysis allowed us to identify two major environmental gradients (nutrients and light) and two major complexity gradients (related to abundance and fragmentation).
