The Study of Tissue-Specific DNA Methylation as a Method for the Epigenetic Discrimination of Forensic Samples [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In forensic sciences, the serological methods used to determine which body fluid was collected from the crime scene are merely presumptive or labor intensive since they rely on protein detection or on microscopic identification of cells.

Mercury Sources Between Zhongshan Station and Dome A, Eastern Antarctica Identified Using Mercury Stable Isotopes

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 4, 28 February 2025.
Abstract Although mercury (Hg) is a neurotoxic metal of global relevance, its Antarctic biogeochemical cycles are not well characterized. Here, we present the total Hg (THg) distribution and stable isotopic fractionation between the Zhongshan Station and Dome A (1,248 km), in eastern Antarctica, to characterize THg sources and controlling factors ...

Being Gifted as Negative Certainty

open access: yesOpen Theology, 2019
Existentialism centres reflection upon the bodily existence of the human person. Generally, however, theological anthropology has struggled to manage developments in biological and psychological sciences that have made clear the pluriformity of human ...

Contribution of Glutamatergic and GABAergic Mechanisms to the Plasticity‐Modulating Effects of Dopamine in the Human Motor Cortex

open access: yesHuman Brain Mapping, Volume 46, Issue 3, February 15, 2025.
Background: Dopamine modulates cortical excitability and plasticity by influencing glutamate and GABA receptor activity. This study investigates the impact of general dopaminergic activation and D1‐ and D2‐like receptor modulation on transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS)‐induced plasticity in humans. Methods:• Pharmacological intervention: l ...

Nikolai Berdyaev’s Dialectics of Freedom: In Search for Spiritual Freedom

open access: yesOpen Theology, 2019
In Berdyaev’s notion of freedom the borders between theology and philosophy seem to fall down. The same existential concern for spiritual freedom is at the heart of both theology and philosophy.

Hydrological Controls and Sources of Water for Shallow Groundwater of Underfit, Fine‐Grained Floodplains

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 39, Issue 2, February 2025.
During high water, there are variable connected macropores made up of variable water sources depending on location and also antecedent conditions. High river water prolongs the wet period by preventing drainage and providing surface water subsidies to the discontinuous macropore network. During low water, rain recharges the matrix with some runoff into

B Cells With Complementary B Cell Receptors Can Kill Each Other

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Immunology, Volume 55, Issue 1, January 2025.
Depending on whether the interactions occur in vitro or in vivo, physical binding between two B cells with complementary BCRs leads to distinct outcomes for the participating cells. In vitro, both the Id+ B cell and the complementary anti‐idiotypic B cell undergo apoptosis.

Large‐Area Lead Monolayers under Cover: Intercalation, Doping, and Phase Transformation

open access: yesSmall Structures, Volume 6, Issue 1, January 2025.
A low‐temperature intercalation method is employed to introduce Pb atoms at the buffer layer‐SiC interface, resulting in the formation of a (1 × 1) Pb layer. In contrast to hydrogen intercalation, graphene doping remains unaffected by the substrate's spontaneous polarization, instead polarizing the Pb layer.
