Black Holes in String Theory [PDF]

open access: greenarXiv, 1996
This thesis is devoted to trying to find a microscopic quantum description of black holes. We consider black holes in string theory which is a quantum theory of gravity. We find that the ``area law'' black hole entropy for extremal and near-extremal charged black holes arises from counting microscopic configurations.

Hairy Black Holes in String Theory [PDF]

open access: greenPhysical Review D, 1993
Solutions of bosonic string theory are constructed which correspond to four-dimensional black holes with axionic quantum hair. The basic building blocks are the renormalization group flows of the CP1 model with a theta term and the SU(1,1)/U(1) WZW coset

Non-Abelian black holes in string theory [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2017
We study a family of 5-dimensional non-Abelian black holes that can be obtained by adding an instanton field to the well-known D1D5W Abelian black holes. Naively, the non-Abelian fields seem to contribute to the black-hole entropy but not to the mass due

On Black Holes In String Theory [PDF]

open access: greenarXiv, 1991
In these lecture notes from Strings `91, I briefly sketch the analogy between two dimensional black holes and the s-wave sector of four dimensional black holes, and the physical interest of the latter, particularly in the magnetically charged case.

Hawking Radiation in String Theory and the String Phase of Black Holes [PDF]

open access: green, 1999
The quantum string emission by Black Holes is computed in the framework of the `string analogue model' (or thermodynamical approach), which is well suited to combine QFT and string theory in curved backgrounds (particulary here, as black holes and strings posses intrinsic thermal features and temperatures).

Lifshitz black holes in string theory [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2011
We provide the first black hole solutions with Lifshitz asymptotics found in string theory. These are expected to be dual to models enjoying anisotropic scale invariance with dynamical exponent z=2 at finite temperature. We employ a consistent truncation

Supersymmetric black holes in string theory [PDF]

open access: yesFortschritte der Physik, 2007
We review recent developments concerning supersymmetric black holes in string theory. After a general introduction to the laws of black hole mechanics and to black hole entropy in string theory, we discuss black hole solutions in N=2 supergravity ...

Black Holes in Supergravity and String Theory [PDF]

open access: yesClassical and Quantum Gravity, 2000
We give an elementary introduction to black holes in supergravity and string theory. The focus is on BPS solutions in four- and higher-dimensional supergravity and string theory.

Comments on Black Holes in String Theory [PDF]

open access: yesClassical and Quantum Gravity, 1999
A very brief review is given of some of the developments leading to our current understanding of black holes in string theory. This is followed by a discussion of two possible misconceptions in this subject - one involving the stability of small black ...

Black Hole Emission in String Theory and the String Phase of Black Holes [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2001
String theory properly describes black-hole evaporation. The quantum string emission by Black Holes is computed. The black-hole temperature is the Hawking temperature in the semiclassical quantum field theory (QFT) regime and becomes the intrinsic string temperature, T_s, in the quantum (last stage) string regime.
