Simulation of Binary Black Hole Spacetimes with a Harmonic Evolution Scheme [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A numerical solution scheme for the Einstein field equations based on generalized harmonic coordinates is described, focusing on details not provided before in the literature and that are of particular relevance to the binary black hole problem.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Are nuclear star clusters the precursors of massive black holes? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We present new upper limits for black hole masses in extremely late type spiral galaxies. We confirm that this class of galaxies has black holes with masses less than 10^6 Msolar, if any.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Zigzag et « carré plastique » haïtiens en Amérique du nord à travers l’Autobiographie américaine de Dany Laferrière

open access: yesAmerika
The « American Autobiography » by Dany Laferrière and the « Carré Plastique » by Léonel Jules, Haitian artists and friends who emigrated to Quebec, deconstruct the concept of the American city through the stylistic breaking of the rules. However, do they

Quasinormal modes and Strong Cosmic Censorship

open access: yes, 2018
The fate of Cauchy horizons, such as those found inside charged black holes, is intrinsically connected to the decay of small perturbations exterior to the event horizon.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Des colonies à l’Empire fasciste. La conquête de l’Afrique racontée aux enfants italiens

open access: yesStrenae, 2012
In Italy, the conquest and colonization of Africa was inscribed in children’s literature as the territory occupation unfolded, in correspondence with an ideological evolution that accompanied it.
