Effects of black scurf (Rhizoctonia solani) on potatoes

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, 1973
SUMMARYKing Edward and Majestic seed tubers, selected as ‘clean’ (macroscopically symptomless), moderate and severe according to the extent of black scurf, were planted in field experiments at Rothamsted between 1964 and 1968. Seed infection sometimes delayed plants emerging but did not affect final plant populations.

Aggressiveness of Rhizoctonia solani Strains against Potato Varieties and Integrated Management of Black Scurf Disease [PDF]

open access: yesPhytopathogenomics and Disease Control
Black scurf has become the predominant potato disease in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), causing substantial economic losses due to reduced tuber quality and yield.

Antagonizing Impact of Endophytic Fungal Isolates against Potato Black Scurf (Rhizoctonia solani)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Phytopathology, 2022
Four endophytic fungal isolates, naturally associated with Solanum tuberosum L., were evaluated for their antagonistic activity against Rhizoctonia solani and their ability to suppress black scurf disease of potato tubers. To identify the potential implication of antifungal compounds in their inhibitory activity, cell-free culture filtrates were ...

Boosting minimalist classifiers for blemish detection in potatoes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This paper introduces novel methods for detecting blemishes in potatoes using machine vision. After segmentation of the potato from the background, a pixel-wise classifier is trained to detect blemishes using features extracted from the image.

Management of Black Scurf (Rhizoctonia solani) of Potato through Organic Approaches

open access: yesIndian Journal Of Agricultural Research, 2020
Black scurf (Rhizoctonia solani) disease of potato is becoming prominent in many potato growing districts of Gujarat state which reduce quality and market value of the produce, resulting in economic losses. The field experiment was conducted during rabi season of 2014-15 in naturally infested field with scurf pathogen at Potato Research Station, S.D ...

Potato seed dressing with Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain RZ9 enhances yield and reduces black scurf

open access: yesPhytopathologia Mediterranea, 2015
A rhizospheric strain RZ9 of Pseudomonas aeruginosa was assessed for in-vitro growth inhibition of Rhizoctonia solani and effectiveness to control black scurf on potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.) of the cultivars Spunta and Nicola, in greenhouse and field ...

Morphology and pathogenicity of Rhizoctonia solani Kühn associated with potato black scurf in Nariño (Colombia)

open access: yesRevista Colombiana de Ciencias Hortícolas, 2021
The objective of the research was to understand the diversity of Rhizoctonia solani in potato crops in Nariño. Tubers with sclerotia were collected from farms in the municipalities of Pasto, Ipiales, Tuquerres and Ospina. In a laboratory, the strains were grouped in categories, selecting 30 for morphological and pathogenic studies.

Participatory Black Scurf Disease Management on Potato in Nepal

open access: yesNepal Agriculture Research Journal, 2014
A farmer's participatory field experiment was accomplished during three consecutive years  (2003-2005) for the sustainable management of black scurf disease of potato at Mainapokhar, Bardiya, Nepal. A heavily infested field with Rhizoctonia solani was selected prior to experimentation.

Cultivar differences of black scurf occurrence on potato tubers [PDF]

open access: yesProgress in Plant Protection, 2015
Nowadays the potato skin diseases are very important factors limiting the quality of tubers. The skin diseases include also the black scurf that results from the occurrence of Rhizoctonia solani sclerotia. The study used the data regarding evaluation of infected tubers and degree of infected tubers of black scurf on the potato cultivars in 2001–2013 ...
