Estimation of phytoplankton biomass using HPLC pigment analysis in the southwestern Black Sea

open access: yes, 2021
The phytoplankton population of the southwestern Black Sea in May 2001 was studied by taxonomic analysis using microscopic examination and by pigment analyses using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Farming in the Forests of Black Sea Coastal; Case Study of Black Sea Region in Turkey

open access: yesProcedia Economics and Finance, 2015
AbstractForest areas provide an ideal location for planting many valued plants as well as animal production. Beside timber production, there are some plants prefer shaded conditions which required management practices. When considering farming in forested lands, some animals and plants are feasible in the available resources of forests.

Algological studies of the northwestern part of the Black Sea

open access: yesAlgologia, 2023
A critical and systematic revision of the species composition of microphytobenthos of the northwestern part of the Black Sea was made. The author conducted long-term research (1980–2021), as well as analyzed retrospective data. In total, 524 species of microphytobenthos were found in the northwestern part of the Black Sea, which belong to 185 genera ...

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This
