Black shales

Journal of the Geological Society, 1980
‘Black shales’ is an old term for argillaceous rocks rich in organic matter. The characteristics of the depositional environment of such deposits have long intrigued geologists, particularly the extent to which actualistic models can be applied. The revived interest in the last few years stems principally from the wide-spread recognition that black ...

Black shales

Paleobiology, 1983
In earlier and simpler times in North American geology, there was an extraordinarily large amount of unexplored ground per available geologist to study it. State and territorial geological surveys, which undertook the first comprehensive mapping programs in the nineteenth century, were at first able to make only the grossest descriptions of outcrops in

Au-Cu Black Shale Formations

Earth Science Frontiers, 2007
Abstract The results of the generalization of lithologic-facial and paleogeographic reconstructions and genetic formational analysis of the various metalliferous high-carbonaceous Phanerozoic sedimentary complexes are presented and systematized. The factors predetermining the origin of ore concentrations of gold and copper are specified.

Elemental profile of black shales

Chinese Journal of Geochemistry, 2011
A black shale sample collected from the Chimiari site (Tarbela) was analyzed for elemental contents. Inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) was employed to determine major and trace elements in the digests. Precise analysis was accomplished for the black shales, which was better than 2.0%.
