Complications, Mortality, and Functional Decline in Patients 80 Years or Older Undergoing Major Head and Neck Ablation and Reconstruction

open access: yes, 2019
Importance Data regarding outcomes after major head and neck ablation and reconstruction in the growing geriatric population (specifically ≥80 years of age) are limited.

Anterior bladder flap neo urethra as treatment for stress urinary incontinence due to developmental urogenital anomaly

open access: yesUrology Annals, 2013
Congenital anomalies that involve the distal segment of urogenital sinus (giving rise to female urethra and vagina) may lead to abnormal urethral development ranging from absent to markedly deficient urethra.

A hybrid deep learning framework for automated treatment planning in cervical cancer radiotherapy

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 27, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Background Radiation therapy treatment planning is a time‐consuming trial‐and‐error process, and the plan quality is heavily dependent on planners' experiences, resulting in a strong demand for automated planning methods that can rapidly generate uniformly high‐quality plans. Purpose This study aimed to develop a hybrid automated deep learning‐

Urodynamic evaluation in bladder exstrophy patients following primary turn-in

open access: yesIndian Journal of Urology, 2001
The staged repair for bladder exstrophy has been established over the last few decades. Bladder neck repair depends on the ability of the closed bladder to increase in capacity with time.

Dosimetric evaluation of systematic source position uncertainty along the source path and robust planning during MRI‐only cervical HDR brachytherapy

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 27, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Background The knowledge of the dosimetric impact of systematic source position uncertainty and the use of a methodology for robust treatment planning against such uncertainty can help improve the quality of treatment plans, during MR‐only cervical brachytherapy treatment.

Treatment of head and neck cancer with photodynamic therapy: results after one year [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a new and promising treatment modality for the treatment of malignant disease. This paper reports the preliminary experience of our group in the use of this therapy for the treatment of tumours arising in the head and neck ...

Application of synthetic computed tomography based on a deep learning model in pelvic radiotherapy planning: A feasibility study

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 27, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Background While computed tomography (CT) remains an important imaging modality in radiotherapy planning, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)‐only workflow, often realized via the generation of synthetic computed tomography (sCT), is desired due to superior soft‐tissue contrast and less susceptibility to registration errors.

Positive Precystectomy Biopsies of the Prostatic Urethra or Bladder Neck Do Not Necessarily Preclude Orthotopic Bladder Substitution. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
PURPOSE We investigated the influence of positive precystectomy biopsies of the prostatic urethra in males and the bladder neck in females on urethral recurrence, cancer specific and overall survival, and functional outcomes after orthotopic bladder ...

Bilateral single system ectopic ureters: Case report with literature review

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Paediatric Surgery, 2008
Bilateral single system ureteral ectopia (BSSEU) is one of the rarest entities in urology, with less than 80 cases reported so far. Incontinence resulting from the underlying anomaly can be devastating to the child.

Modeling Catheter‐Associated Bladder Mucosal Adhesion and Microtrauma Using a Human Urothelial Microtissue Model

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, Volume 6, Issue 10, October 2026.
Intermittent catheter use can damage the urinary tract and predispose to infection. We deployed a complex human urothelial model to investigate. Catheter contact induced compressive and shear stress causing umbrella cell disruption, reduced barrier function, inflammation and increased cell adhesion to the catheter surface.
