The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty\u27s Obligation to Transfer Peaceful Nuclear Energy Technology: One Proposal of a Technology [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
This Essay discusses the technology transfer provisions of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (“NPT”) and describes the Radkowsky Thorium Reactor, which is being developed as a peaceful nuclear energy ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Terrestrial organic carbon storage in a British moorland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Accurate estimates for the size of terrestrial organic carbon (C) stores are needed to determine their importance in regulating atmospheric CO2 concentrations. The C stored in vegetation and soil components of a British moorland was evaluated in order to:

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Spray-on technique simplifies fabrication of complex thermal insulation blanket [PDF]

open access: yes, 1966
Spray-on process constructs molds used in forming sections of thermal insulation blankets. The process simplifies the fabrication of blankets by eliminating much of the equipment formerly required and decreasing the time ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Qualification Pathways for Fusion Structural Materials

open access: yesJournal of Nuclear Engineering
Qualification is the evidence-based process through which confidence is established that a component will perform its intended function, in its intended environment, for its intended lifetime, with the required reliability.

Thermochemical Properties of Glass Wool/Maerogel Composites

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2016
Aerogel blankets are composites of silica aerogel particles dispersed in a reinforcing fiber matrix that turns the brittle aerogel into durable and flexible insulating materials.
