The mantis shrimp telson reveals how ridged biological shields control deformation under impact. Inspired by this architecture, telson‐inspired ridged curved shells transform ridge geometry and macroscopic curvature into bidirectional snap‐through, tunable stiffness, and enhanced hysteretic energy dissipation for multifunctional architected materials ...

Iterative Selection of DNA Nanostructures for Cellular Uptake
DNA nanostructures are promising cell targeting delivery vehicles for therapeutics, but the targeting behavior is not fully understood. In this study, libraries of DNA nanostructures that can be amplified and sequenced are combined with cellular uptake as a selection pressure to iteratively refine DNA structures taken up in cells to better understand ...

Spermidine, a polyamine, confers resistance to rice blast
Polyamines are involved not only in fundamental cellular processes such as growth, differentiation, and morphogenesis, but also in various environmental stresses. We demonstrated that spermidine, a polyamine, confers resistance to rice blast accompanied by the up-regulation of marker genes for the salicylic acid-mediated signaling pathway PR1b and PBZ1

A 4‐layer Kevlar‐based composite is fabricated by combining ultrasonic spraying and electrostatic flocking. Carbon black dispersion is first deposited onto Kevlar fabric to create a conductive electrode. Nylon fibers are then electrostatically flocked onto the coated fabric, forming a dielectric layer.

Eutectic Gallium‐Indium as a Potential Non‐Toxic Replacement in Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry
A practical alternative to mercury intrusion porosimetry is presented using non‐oxidized eutectic gallium‐indium. An eGaIn Filling Station enables oxygen‐free preparation of standard penetrometers, and the resulting measurements faithfully reproduce pore‐size distributions and intrusion volumes measured with mercury across several standard reference ...

A Simple Procedure For Designing Blast Resistant Wheels
AbstractIn this paper, a simple procedure to design a blast resistant wheel is presented. Finite element analysis is employed to provide preliminary evaluations on the blast resistance of the wheel; the issues of such work are analyzed and the results are shown in order to prove the validity of the proposed procedure.
