Invention of the Flexible Fiberoptic Nasopharyngolaryngoscope: Perspectives From the East
The fiberoptic nasopharyngolaryngoscope was developed in 1967 by Drs. Masayuki Sawashima, Hajime Hirose, and Osamu Fujimura at the University of Tokyo's Research Institute of Logopedics and Phoniatrics (RILP), building on Dr. Shigeto Ikeda's 1962 fiberoptic bronchoscope during Japan's postwar surge in technological innovation.

Abstract Background SCA27B is a recently described ataxia, the precise anatomical basis of which remains unclear. Objective The goal was to characterize the structural brain and spinal cord magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) signature of spinocerebellar ataxia 27B (SCA27B) using multimodal quantitative imaging.

ABSTRACT To address the dual challenges of routine driving vibration and impact loads in vehicle seat suspensions, a novel variable‐gap magnetorheological damper (VGMRD) is proposed. By combining a tapered piston with a conformal variable‐diameter cylinder, stroke‐dependent, dual‐mode damping characteristics are achieved without the need for complex ...

How can children and young people have a voice in urban treescapes?
Abstract Scientific understanding of climate change has, to date, failed to result in sufficient action. This paper proposes that a deficit model of top‐down learning and dissemination in relation to public engagement with science may be part of the problem, particularly when considering the attitudes, values and empowerment of children and young ...

Calculation of slope stability of fault-containing slopes under the action of cyclic blast vibration
In order to accurately quantify and predict the evolution of slope stability of fault-containing slopes under the long-term effect of blasting vibration, and to realize the safe, efficient and sustainable mining of open-pit mines. Taking an open-pit mine

Biosurfactant was produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa using andiroba waste from Amazonia. A biosurfactant–alginate composite (Alg/BioS) was successfully synthesized via ionotropic gelation, and achieved up to 70% Cr6+ removal from water. Abstract Environmental contamination by heavy metals represents a significant challenge due to their persistence in ...
