Prostaglandins in Rabbit Blastocysts
Science, 1975Rabbit blastocysts recovered at 144 hours post coitum contained the prostaglandins F and E-A. We suggest that one or more of these prostaglandins act as mediators in blastocyst steroidogenesis. (In another study we have demonstrated steroidogenesis in rabbit blastocysts).

On the orientation of the implanting blastocyst [PDF]
ABSTRACTThe sequence of events in the orientation of the blastocyst is described. Six a priori mechanisms for orientating the blastocyst are presented. It is concluded that the only mechanism fulfilling the available morphological and experimental observations is one in which the inner cell mass is free to travel round the inside of the trophoblast ...

Blastocyst Microinjection Automation
IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine, 2009Blastocyst microinjections are routinely involved in the process of creating genetically modified mice for biomedical research, but their efficiency is highly dependent on the skills of the operators. As a consequence, much time and resources are required for training microinjection personnel.

The Marsupial Blastocyst - a Study of the Blastocysts in the Hill Collection
Australian Journal of Zoology, 1986Blastocysts in the Hill Collection from Trichosurus vulpecula, Pefrogale penicillata, Macropus ruficollis (= M. rufogriseus), Macropus parma, Onychogalea fraenata, Bettongia gaimardi, Perameles obesula (=lsoodon obesulus), Perameles nasuta, Dasyurus viverrinus, Didelphis aurita (=D. marsupialis) and Didelphis virginiana were examined.

Experimental models of blastocyst development based on in vitro culture have played a prominent role in advancing our understanding of peri-implantation development, a process that is relatively inaccessible in vivo. Blastocyst culture provides a robust approach for examining embryonic interactions with the microenvironment under highly controlled ...

The Biology of the Blastocyst [PDF]
Dr. Blandau presents an outstanding text in reproductive biology, dealing with the mammalian blastocyst. At the 1969 Lake Wilderness conference, he and other notable scientists worked toward a better understanding of the complex embryo-uterine interrelationships as well as a new prospective on contraception.

Parthenogenetic Mouse Blastocysts
Nature, 1970A READY supply of parthenogenetic mammalian embryos would be useful. Parthenogenones which develop from unfertilized eggs may be haploid, diploid or polyploid, depending on whether the meiotic divisions and first cleavage division occur1. Haploid cells can be used for studying cellular genetics and embryology.

The human oocyte is surrounded by the zona pellucida—an elastic, transparent extracellular matrix consisting of specific glycoproteins. The zona pellucida is preserved after fertilization and surrounds the developing human embryo for a few days. The embryo needs to get out of the zona pellucida before implantation to establish cell contacts between the

To date preimplantation diagnosis has been made in the two-eight cells embryos because these are available in IVF programs. However, most patients referred for IVF are infertile, very few undergoing IVF with the thought of preimplantation diagnosis.
