CAZ catalog and optical light curves of 7918 blazar-selected active galactic nuclei

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Active galactic nuclei (AGN) are some of the brightest and most variable objects in the Universe. Those with relativistic jets observed at small viewing angles are blazars. Due to Doppler boosting, blazars exhibit extreme stochastic variability.

Optical variability modeling of newly identified blazar candidates behind Magellanic Clouds

open access: yes, 2019
We present results of a variability study in the optical band of 44 newly identified blazar candidates behind the Magellanic Clouds. Our sample contains 27 flat spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs) and 17 BL Lacertae objects (BL Lacs).

Multiband Optical Variability of the Blazar OP 313 in the Outburst State during 2024–2025

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present the analysis results of flux and spectral variability of the blazar OP 313 across intra-night to short-term timescales using BVRI photometric data, gathered over 25 nights from 2024 November to 2025 May, using two optical telescopes in ...

Temporal variability of polarization in blazars

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
We investigated the temporal variability of the polarization of synchrotron radiation from blazar jets. Multiwavelength observations reveal high-amplitude rotations of the electric vector position angle (EVPA), both in the optical and in the X-rays. The polarization degree and the EVPA often show seemingly erratic variability.

Revisiting Radio Variability of the Blazar 3C 454.3

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We examine lengthy radio light curves of the flat spectrum radio galaxy 3C 454.3 for possible quasiperiodic oscillations (QPOs). The data used in this work were collected at five radio frequencies, 4.8, 8.0, 14.5, 22.0, and 37.0 GHz between 1979 and 2013

Patterns of X-Ray and γ-Ray Flares: From Blazar to Magnetar and Sun

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Using Gaussian process methods, we analyzed the light curves of three extreme solar X-ray flares observed by the RHESSI satellite. Their variability characteristics were then compared with those of HXMT-HE X-ray burst (XRB; in SGR 1935+2154) associated ...

Association of the IceCube neutrinos with CAZ blazar light curves

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
The IceCube Neutrino Observatory has detected several hundred high-energy neutrinos from cosmic sources. Despite numerous studies searching for their origin, it is still not known which sources emit them.
